ravefree 0 Posted November 3, 2002 I am a legit owner of OFP Gold and Resistance. Bought two copies of OFP Gold for both of my computers. Then went out and bought two copies of the Resistance upgrade. Installed them using the sperate CD's for both computers and seperate CD-Keys. There was a problem with one of the GOLD CD's and Codemasters and to send me a new one. Everything was working ok untill I swapped out my old intel board with a MSI KT400 /w Gforce ti 200 video card. 256mb of RAM. Swap 512mb. Creative Live Audigy Sound card. Now the game will randomly lock up in Multiplayer. And randomly display the message "Remember Orginal Games do not Fade. I emailed support@bis.. and support@codemasters about this along with my address and phone number. No response as of yet. I have not noticed any fade specific problems such as aiming or poor gameplay only the lock ups so the two may not be related. I also followed all the posts about the VIA chipset including bringing the AGP 4x down to 2x and then 1x. Also used the registry setting from the Microsoft Technet Article in the Troubleshooting FAQ. I am at a complete loss. I think the two problems are not related. THe lockups concern me more then the FADE. Since FADE should not be activated as I have never installed on anohter machine. Any one have any thoughts. Does the fact that I get this message every once in a while mean FADE is activated. Can I tell. Is there anything else I can do to minimize the lockups in OFP with my VIA chipset... All other games and apps work fine.. Windows 2000 SP2.. Thanks, Shane... theavonlady 2 Posted November 3, 2002 Regarding the CTDs, search The FAQ for "via" and look at the bottom paragraph. Regarding FADE, are these in MP games with other people? It could be that it's not your problem but some other player who's using an illegal copy.
ravefree 0 Posted November 3, 2002 Ok I was able to fix the lockups with my VIA chipset using the registry fix from Microsoft/AMD http://www.amd.com/us-en....,00.htm Also installed the latest dentonator drivers for the Gforce 3 ti200 video card. Disabled Fastwrite of AGP in the BIOS. and lastly installed the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers... Hopefully the FADE issue is not on my end... THanks for the help.. Hopefully this will help someone else out. Do not dismiss the registry fix if you have an AGP card and a VIA/AMD system. Several 3d games have this issue... ravefree 0 Posted November 3, 2002 FADE.... only in multiplayer.. but I have not noticed it today.. all seems well. But I still would like to know for certain... Have an email with BIS/Codmasters hopefully they can clear it up.. Got no problems with Copyright protection.. but if it kicks in on legit installations then it is an issue.. Major Fubar 0 Posted November 4, 2002 the big problem with FADE is that BIS and Codemasters have never (IMHO) given a reasonable statement on what it is and what activates it. The result of this is many people who encounter various bugs and crashes with the game are unsure whether it is  hardware faults, bad installation, or the mysterious FADE causing the problem. I have seen too many instances of people with legit installations getting the "Original games do not fade" message for it to be dismissed lightly.

ravefree 0 Posted November 4, 2002 Thanks for all the help. I seriously doubt it is a conterfit copy. As a system administrator for a large firmI see countless number of boxed software. Usually it is very easy to spot a conterfit copy. Not to mention this was bought from EBGames They are a nation wide retailer for Computer and Console games... Actully bought at the store front, box was shrink wrapped.... On the lockups, I think I found a solution. Use at your own risk.. (AMD/VIA/Specific issue) 1. Use the LoadMinimum registry fix listed on AMD's site under patches (see last post for link) 2. Install latest VIA chip set drivers 3. If possible reserve an IRQ setting for your video card (Geforce) 4. Make sure your computer has proper ventalation and cooling 5. Check power supply for higher end systems a 350+ or 400 watt power supply is a must have... 6. If your BIOS supports it, find out what the recommended PCI latency should be set to. 7. Try lowering the AGP from 4x to 2x, to 1x if problems continue Hopefully this helps other poor souls. I will post again once I hear back from Codemasters or BIS in regards to the FADE issue...
