Mobile Trigger?

Is there a way to create a trigger that is bound to a unit and thus mobile?  What I am trying to do is create a mission where the players have to tail a boat back to the rebel safe house.  I want to make a trigger that travels with the boat so that if the players get too close it will change the behavior and maybe even the path the ship takes.  Does anyone have an idea on how I might go about this?
