Object Builder & Terrain Builder Freeze on Preview

Recommended Posts

Currently following this guide:

https://youtu.be/Cw80ZWZh1Xw

Potential cause:

https://youtu.be/Cw80ZWZh1Xw?t=4m19s

At this point in the video my tools deviate from being the same as in the video, the ARMA 3 tools as I see them only give me "Work Drive Management" where his "P: Drive (DevP)" is. The window still says "DevP" at the top but I don't get a "Default" option like he does. I only have Install/Uninstall Bulldozer, Mount work drive, and display debug info.

Problem:

When trying to commit this step, having followed everything said and shown besides the above potential problem (Having just used "Mount the Work Drive" instead), Object builder gives me a loading screen for "Starting External Viewer" and how many seconds it has until it's finished. It stays at zero estimated seconds until it just says "External Viewer: TIMEOUT - Operation takes a long time". When trying to move forward with the steps anyway. Trying to render in terrain builder results in freezing and "not responding" until I close it. Has something changed in the process recently?

After trial and error I've been able to solve the problem by deviating further from the guide and every-time reinstalling the P: drive. There are two things to note.

One, my arma 3 is installed on a second drive, not my OS drive, even though that shouldn't make a difference, installing Arma 3 tools on the OS drive appears to. I installed Arma 3 Tools to the OS drive, which is also the drive the P: drive inherits from.

First word of advice is if you have this problem, uninstall the p drive by uninstalling arma 3 tools, deleting the files inside (backup projects you were working on obviously) and removing the drive with command prompt:

subst P: /d

Next, restart the computer and reinstall tools, remount the PDrive, if it's not remounting use the DevP.bat file in Arma 3 tools directory. Then, launching the tools using Arma 3 Tools should allow you to render a preview in object builder. If it says it need an external viewer, use your Arma3.exe in your game directory. Granted this seemed like a specialized issue, I am using windows 8.1 for the record, and this is after the hot-fix post Eden update to the tools.

The viewer problem I had the other day. Copy his commands on the viewer parameter box as the software has updated. All the commands after where he has located his arma3.exe. The method he shoes is out if date. Make sure cause you have arma installed on another drive that the URL is correct for your PC

Anything else I'm here to help.
