The M41A Pulse Rifle is the standard weapon used by USCM infantry. It is a 10mm air-cooled automatic pulse action rifle with an over and under configuration sporting an underslung 30mm pump-action grenade launcher. The M41 is lightwieght, has a retractable stock for rifle or carbine fire, and an optional 3X power AN/RVS-52 CCD Television Sight.

The M41 fire a US M309 10mm X 24 round, 210 grain with a rectangular caseless block of Nitromine 50 as propultion. The bullet is explosive tipped and can penetrate most personal body armors on the market. A magazine holds up to 99 rounds, but most Marines only fill it to 95 to prevent jamming.

The rifle is fired by electronic pulse action controlled directly by the trigger. There is a thumb selector on the grip that cycles between selective, four-round burst and fully automatic (900rpm) fire. There is a LED display on the magazine housing that give an ammunition count, and a manual cocking handle to clear hand-load the rifle or clear the breach when it jams.

The 30mm underslung grenade launcher is comprised of a barrel, breech, and a four-round internal magazine. It is primed by pump-action and fired by a trigger in front of the magazine housing. The most common grenade is the M-40 High-Explosive Fragmentation Round, which has a 400m range.

Even if it is a grenade it doesnt mean it wouldnt fly like an rocket propelled grenade and I think the gun could do with firing more like an RPG, it sucks having to heft nearly vertically just top hit someone Im almost in hand grenade range of any way

Ok, todo-list for next update:

- four grenades/magazine (now: five)

- grenade: initspeed=40 (now: =30)

<s>- USCMarine-model (well, that will cost hours...)</s>

- bleach the "greenish" hull a little bit

- new variants: e.g. M-41B-1 (grenade->20mm close engagement rifle, as mentioned on this page; thanx for the info,vade_101! )

The range is a bit short, it should be more like the OFP M203 or MM-1.

This is the rounds it fires:

These are 40mm grenades:

These are RPGs:

Now, it seems much more probable to me the M41A would fire like a convention grenade launcher than an RPG, the M41A grenade does not appear to have any onboard propulsion.

I haven't played the AVP games much, so I can't say how they fire ingame.

New M41a V1.1, available soon (next week?):

- four grenades/magazine (now: five)

- grenade: initspeed=40 (now: =30)

- "greenish" hull texture: a little bit bleached

- new variants (I'll try to keep game's balance):

M41a2: dark/black hull, blackmarket variant as seen in the movie "Alien 3"

M41b1: 20mm close engagement rifle instead of grenade launcher

M41g1: 20mm close engagement rifle instead of grenade lauchner, scope; experimental "sniper"-variant

My plans for the sniper rifle:

No full auto, no single shot mode. Only a five-rounds-burst mode. The improvement: all five bullets will hit the target at the same spot. The idea behind it: an internal mechanical buffering system delays the recoil effect using inertia effects. This system can absorb the energy of five rounds until it has to release the collected energy to the weapons mass.

(wow, my imagination is functioning perfectly! biggrin.gif)

We'll see how I can implement this.

btw: Has anyone an idea how to implement an IR-Scope?

nope, in avp1 it has smoke coming from its exuast and you can hear it!

on one map i often put a flare in a small trench and when i see the silloette of the aliens i discharge an RPG at them, it really does fly in a strait line.

Thats a good idea, the HK G11 was certinally capable of firing a 3round burst without the recoil taking effect until the last round fired, at that is using a mechanical ignition system rather the the m41's "pulse" system so techniacally 5 rounds would be fine.

doesn't they have systems that fire a weight backwards and it counters the effect untill it hits the end of the gun!

Wasn't there another experimental version of the Pulse rifle mentioned in the colonial marine technical manual that made it into some sort of light machine gun?

*Goes to check*

you could make some Weyland-Yutani Corprate police, i can get you screenies. You could also make some 'Bears' (Mercanarys who work for the Weyland-Yutani force/research team on LV-1201)

The Leader of the Bears is an Ex-UCMC marine, he got hit by a predator but survived, but he was given an experimental-robotic/electronic spine.

heres a quote about the bears from AvP2

"There's only one problem about sending the Bears to educate a town, when they're done, their's no town left!"

i also heard somthing when i was a facehugger that some 'Bear' got really angry in a fight and broke both a guys arms!

heres some corprate pictures! The first one is a 'bear' mercanary!

http://planetavp.com/images/avp2screenshots/avp2corporate6_species.jpg

The adress for this one says its a marine, but really its corprate police, or a 'bear' mercanary wearing a corprates helmet, he's armed with a grenade launcher, the one in the game is alot bigger!

http://planetavp.com/images/unitedstatescoonialmarine_large.jpg

Here is a marine in 'Rural' camo, this is the type you want in OFP

http://planetavp.com/images/avp2screenshots/avp2marine3.jpg

Here is an Urban Marine, this is what they look like in the film, lots of Greys.

Not a good picture, but its a smart gun!

hehe!

1 - "ALL, FIRE"<span id='postcolor'>

One word: "Krank!"

Ok, final update variant list:

- M41a (hull slightly bleached; no more "greenish"wink.gif)

- M41b (blackmarket version)

- M41g (experimental sniper version; longer barrel, reduced flash, only special burst mode, scope, camouflaged hull)

Yeah, I know I don't obey the USCM Manual. As I said: poetic licence... biggrin.gif
