HeroesandvillainsOS 1504 Posted October 31, 2015 So I've owned ARMA for a few months now and I feel like I've been chasing for something very specific that actually doesn't exist. But apparently ALiVE makes what I want possible. But I can't wrap my head around how to get started. My favorite missions are open world dynamic ones. I love long missions where I can chip away, make some progress, and save and continue. WLA and Antistasi are so far my favorites. And though I plan on continuing those, I keep getting this itch to play something like these, but with terrorists and a middle-east vibe. I kind of want to live out the wars of today through this brilliant game. Once a week or so, a few friends of mine play Autigergrad's excellent ALiVE missions. For instance, this one is called British Steel: https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/184500-alive-ace3-coop-sp-british-steel/ What's great about it is not only do we play this on middle eastern maps killing terrorists and stuff, but it has civilians we have to interrogate to get tasks generated. It also has awesome touches like suicide bombers and the Muslim call to prayer. But most of the time I'm playing by myself and kind of want to start a mission like this that I can play/save/continue on my own. Some kind folks with the ALiVE team have linked me to videos for setting up a server with War Room (that apparently I can play on alone) but otherwise, I am just totally lost about how to get the ball rolling. What would be perfect for me would be to play a mission already created by another user. I'd even play Autigergrad's alone if I could but...A. I feel like they would be very hard for one human with AI teammates and B. I'm not sure if it's even possible with ALiVE to run someone else's mission. Anyway, I realize what I'm asking for would be a lot, but could any SP ALiVE player take me under their wing and show me the ropes? Or perhaps a pre-baked mission like this already exists so I don't have to learn ALiVE at all? I'm willing to, but man oh man it seems very complicated. I'm not really a computer savvy guy. Even if this thread sits idle for a while, I'd really some help or some links whenever anyone has a moment.
Neviothr 102 Posted October 31, 2015 You can't use ALiVE in singleplayer. If you try to save and load a mission that uses ALiVE, the game will crash due to a memory error.

Sorry if I was unclear. I'm not asking about playing ALiVE from the SP missions launcher. I understand that I need to run it on a server in multiplayer, and that War Room is used to save my progress. Just to be clear, it depends on how the missions was designed. If it uses the ALIVE profile system, then this is most likely the case depending on the map. The issue is when ALIVE uses profiles and stores a lot of them. If its a smaller scale missions/map, sometimes it works out fine. Also some missions use alive for some of its features that support saving feature. So i'd be careful on the wording. Example Here

Example Here Thanks. I'd like to pick your brain further on this but let me start with the very basics.I thought War Room was designed to save your mission progress (my buddies and I do this in MP. Our team leader saves the mission for us. He set up the server). Wouldn't the saving/resuming method be agnostic to the number of players? Meaning, couldn't I just play it solo in the multiplayer tab going through a server and save and resume my progress at will?
jcae2798 132 Posted November 1, 2015 Yes saving/loading is specific to the server setup and mission. What it does is save the specific profiles and objectives that the mission was designed to use. So for example: Mission is designed where CSAT VS NATO and CSAT owns half the bottom of the map where NATO owns the top. As you play for hours, NATO may have taken a few more bases south of the map. NATO forces may have grown or shrunk based on the fights. All of this is virtual profiles (Fake units around the map) and this is what is saved/ So next time it loads it knows the number of profiles and where they were. It does not save specific player data. Meaning if you were to exit while you and your buddies had a team in the middle of the map, this will get reset next time you load. Typically this doesnt work across servers, however if the server is configured to use the same war room account, then it could work i would think. You may want to check with ALIVE team.
