Importing roads from global mapper with right ID's

I can get the open street maps shape file into Global mapper. an line it up for my map in terrain builder. But how do I give it the right ID's in global mapper? I can see on the attributes bit there is the type of road supplied by open street map, but how to I change "residential" to say ID 3? Hope this kinda makes sense lol

it makes since to me and i can help, question is what file types does it give you, i actually work for GIS department and i  have to tools to change the attributes of any line file and i can show or tell you how

does it have .shp .pj .shx .dbf?

take that shapefile and bring it in Qgis and you need to calculate fields
