Is there a central mod repository?

Recommended Posts

This is a question about where mods go after they are born. I think I'm right in saying there is not a central location for mods and projects... however it could be that I am just not involved in the modding community enough to know the answer. But let's say I make the addon that's been churning in my brain for a long time, where do I put it?

Let me explain my question:

  • When folks want a package in linux, they hit a main repository first.
  • When I want a python library, I use pip which does the same thing. Ruby has the same thing.
  • When people code anything cool, they throw it on github.

Is there not a central repository for Arma mods?

Lots of mods are on armaholic. Some are on steam. Some are on dev-heaven. ACE is on github... Is there a repository where all mods go and can be accessed programatically (CLI, Rest, etc)?

Let's say your answer is "Play with six tries to do that". Ok, so then where do they get all their mods from?

Thanks for any response you can give me. This is a question that has been bothering me for a long time.

1st you'd want a place to host it yourself, so for example, dropbox, Mega, github, ect,. there are many others, but you'd want to host it yourself in order to submit

it to a larger community site that hosts all mods, missions, scripts, ect,. everything Arma.

Not really as depending on a modder's preference for a host, the either host it themselves, or use multiple sites, a few of what you mentioned already,

the majority if not most are submitted here:

Armaholic

http://www.armaholic.com/index.php

theres also:

Armed Assault.info

http://www.armedassault.info/index.php?cat=news&game=2

and

For the German community:

http://www.arma2base.de/include.php?path=start

For the

Iron front: Liberation 1944 game

(which is Arma engine based) and Arma2CO/Arma3 versions (IFA2, IFA3)

My website hosts everything for Iron front:

http://www.missionrepository.com/

============

hope that answers your questions or at least one of them.

Thanks guys.

So arma 3 launcher has a list of mods and it's able to tell when updates are happening. I'm assuming he's just manually syncing those and updating the mirror list.

Steam Workshop debuted with Arma 3 as one such venue, but otherwise I don't have particular options in mind beyond what Günter Severloh has described.
