Howabout they put in a new type of weapon

Recommended Posts

i said most likely wink.gif

when you inevitably get in close range, then you need to know skills to survive that situation. that's why they teach close combat skills. but what are the chances of that being actually used? and if you get that close it means you did not have good watch-outs.

Snoopy, I saw it, but I didn't know what to do. Some wierd window came up.

Like you said Ralf Wiggum, it is rare, but it happens.

Which is why everyone should have one in their inventory.

Which is exactly what I have been suggesting.

Something to deal with some up close encounters quietly. I'm sure a Black Op could use them.

And no reason for the David Armstrongs not to have one either.

In the U.S. (I'm not sure of other countires) almost al soldiers about all soldiers are equiped with Kevlar. Also if a knife can go through kevlar, chances are it wouldn't go thorough the trauma plate that SHOULD be there(remember in BHD that some removed those).

Yeah right, I have never seen a pic of a soldier wearing kevlar. Genererally just a camo shirt, or no shirt.

but regardless, the idea of making a silent kill with a knife is ridiculous. cutting a person's throat Holloywood style makes a person flop around gargling and wheezing and generally broadcasting to the world that his throat has just been cut. yes, they teach the Rangers hand to hand combat skills, but guess when they are taught to use those skills? When their last mag is empty.

Yep, Am I suggesting that we can't do the same?

So what happens when our last mag is empty? So why wouldn't it be useful for us??

I remember someone made a knife for Rogue Spear, and was it pretty crappy.

In engines never designed for hand-to-hand, it's hard to make a decent melee weapon.

I don't think there is even an animation that would fit. confused.gif

Regarding the US military, normal infantry doesn't get real body armor, at best they get a flak vest, which will not stop bullets, only shrapnel. Even if they had a bullet-resistant vest (nothing is bullet-proof), it wouldn't help much with a knife unless there is also a steel or ceramic trauma plate.

However, every infantry soldier does get a PASGT (Personal Armor System for Ground Troops) helmet, which is made of Kevlar layers.

Cool. See what I mean? And I don't intend on stabbing enemy soldiers in the helmet. biggrin.gif

do you have any idea how hard it is to stab someone and kill them without them screaming their bloody heads off? Jerking back someones heard ,then slicing their throat is not as easy as the movies make it look. And the Green Berets are trained to use knives yes, but they are also trained in Martial arts. but they almost never use it. i doubt the OPF engine could handle realistic knife fighting, not without a lot of work, most likely you'd wind up with having to stab someone 8-9 times, and in the meantime, they have cut you to bloody ribbons with an AK.

No, they could make it so that one solid stab kills. Not that hard.

Or you can just stab them in the neck or face if you want.

A knife would be good, more variety is always good. Theres no way it could ruin the game, and if it were to be an addon then it would barely get used in MP.

Engagement ranges in opflash vary wildy, there is definately no set range, things are dynamic, missions are dynamic...anything can happen. A bayonet would be more useful though i imagine.

And there is no set mission type, especially now with ofpR there is more civ type missions, and more situations where a knife would be fun or useful or appropriate.

So you don't want to listen to both sides of the debate?

"Nice excuse", what's that supposed to mean?

Is there an animation? Well? Or would you have him hold it and use it like a pistol?

Didn't your initial post have something about throwing knives, too?

No offense dude, but I think you've seen too many Chuck Norris or Segal movies.

ppl, calm down wink.gif

anyway, even a direct stabbing isn't easy. I was trained in using machete in my martial arts class along with a dagger, and when we had sparring with plastic or rubber knives, it was still as hard as hell to get a decent cut. of course, we were sparring and both were watching each other(no stealth), but saying 'just stab it in' doesn't cut with me.

but that is extremely unrealistic, and you seem to want this knife for "realism" Knife wounds are a lot more complicated to code then one might think. I tried creating a "murder" simulator (don't ask) in C++ and I gave up because the knife pyshics were extremely complex, even more so then a Rifle or Pistol. and a neck or face wound is not gaurenteed to kill.
