punks 10 Posted December 27, 2014 Hello guys , i started editing skins a couple a months ago , but now i started doing skins for a roleplay server , and i have a small problem . I know the .paa files should be small when u save them , but idk why mine when i save it 2048x2048 it's 2.66Mb , and when i save it half of the high res it's 682kb , i've seen textures with high res under 300kb , idk what's my problem , and that's why i'm here . Maybe u guys can help !

Maybe u guys can help ! Sure it is not saved as a .tga In general the detail in a texture will define its size, a 2048x2048 texture at 2.66Mb to me sounds about right, if you want to it be smaller you will have to scale/blur otherwise tweak it so there are more pixels of the same color which can be compressed into a smaller .paa You can save a 2048x2048 texture that is completely a single color and it will be extremely small <10kb...start adding more colors and details and watch this size increase. punks 10 Posted December 28, 2014 Oh i know about the colours affecting the size of the file , but i will try blur it a bit . Thanks for the help , and i save it as a .tga always ! If bluring it is'nt working i will be back here .

If bluring it is'nt working i will be back here . I might be wrong about this, but you can also try saving the source image as a JPEG, maximizing compression then open if TexView2 and save as a .paa This should result in smaller .paa files but also the loss of a fair bit of in close detail. punks 10 Posted December 30, 2014 Hmmm , i tried before saving it as a JPEG , but somehow it dose'nt affect the size . What changes the size is the res , nor colours or details . I don't know , maybe i'm doing something wrong , but i've seen someone did skins on full res and normal detail . If u don't know whatelse could help me , thank you for replying to my topic ! x3kj 1247 Posted January 1, 2015 1 - the naming scheme defines the compression (_co will use dxt1 dds compression for example _nohq dxt5). You should name it _co if its just a diffuse texture 2 - Try using PNG as base to feed in texview for paa convertion. It didnt like my tga's, and it doesnt like 32bit png's either. x3kj 1247 Posted January 3, 2015 well then its compressed correctly and its just the price to pay for whatever you have in that texture... Blurring helps nothing, because it creates color transitions and those dont compress well at all. Only large surfaces with the same color can get compressed well. Reduce the resolution to 1k if you are worried about filesize... Or redo the texture.
