monkeymanbob 10 Posted November 2, 2014 (edited) Firstly apologies for the title - the captcha box was over the title and hence I ended up with Sbss! With the current sale on Steam for Arma 2 & OA and having just upgraded my PC so it runs more than Snake I'm tempted to take the plunge but I'm hesitant on 2 aspects: 1) With just Arma 2 & OP are there enough people still playing with just these versions or am I looking at spending another £20 - £30 to get extra DLC just so I can get a game - I'm assuming that most mods are free, but is there a core amount of mods that are widely used by the community and if so which ones would it be recommended that I use 2) Do I need to combine Arma 2 & OA to be able to use the maps, kits, etc - and does Steam do this automatically or does it involve a lot of faffing around and an advanced degree in computer science? Thanks in advance and any advice would be welcome. Edited November 2, 2014 by monkeymanbob Captcha code in the way of the title box
Gunter Severloh 4048 Posted November 2, 2014 Hi Welcome to BIS forums! Arma2 and OA basically arma2CO if installed together are still pretty active, there are tons of mods, everything other then the games and DLC's themselves are free as they are all made by the community. to answer your questions: 1. I would buy arma2CO this will have arma2 + OA and its called aram2CO or Combined OPS, this will cover both game and expansion, and all mods for arma2, and OA, maps, ect,. will work. I dont have any DLC's for Arma2Co so I'll leave that up for other posters to describe or give you info on if you need it. as for recommended mods: ACE is a very popular one, I can go on and on with mods, I dont play public MP so best wait til another poster comes along and gives you some good recommendations. or review the arma2OA section of mods here and see what interests you http://www.armaholic.com/list.php?c=arma2_oa_files_modules 2. yes as said in 1 above buy aram2CO already combined then you dont need to do anything but install and patch unless you get it on steam then it will automatically be patched. On steam it will list as arma2OA see the store page here http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4639/
monkeymanbob 10 Posted November 2, 2014 Thank you for the reply Gunter I would like to get into the MP aspect - I use to enjoy BF2 many years ago and a good team of players makes it enjoyable though it can be frustrating when first starting out and the constant noob comments as if some people where playing the game in the womb. Gunter Severloh 4048 Posted November 2, 2014 Welcome. What your mostly referring to is public play, i think if you want team play then coop would be your best bet, either hooking up with friends or joining a group or squad for coop. Here is a guide to mp, it may be a bit outdated as its from 2010, but maybe it can give you a general idea on MP for arma2CO http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?93078-New-to-Multiplayer-%28Read-this-guide%29 For beginners to the game: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?144839-To-Help-us-Beginners ArmA II Hints and Tips https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA_II_Hints_and_Tips Tactics, techniques, & procedure guide http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/ Squads, clans, and groups for coop forum section http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?90-ARMA-2-amp-OA-SQUADS-AND-FANPAGES
