Blocky ground texture caused by nopx?

Recommended Posts

I've regenerated the parallax maps with the Nvidia tools for Photoshop and these work fine, I'm too lazy atm to dive into why the Genetica maps are doing what they do, probably something with the colour ranges on the map.

Hi all,

I've tried to generate a normal parallax map with Genetica for the ground textures I'm planning to use, it all seems to work fine but it makes the textures look rather blocky up close. Has anyone seen this happen before?

Normal view:

The normal view appears to be fine.

Looking down:

But then, I look down and the horror begins.

Close up:

It seems like the normal map is too pronounced.

Actually, and I guess maybe people just don't notice it idk, but if you load up arma2-3 and look down at a lying position they all do that to some extent. You can try using some Gaussian blur to subdue the height map a little bit so the effect is not as harsh.

That is true, you can also see it on walls when you get up close and personal with them. This was just a bit too much for my liking but thanks for the tip on blurring. I went back into Genetica and it has a Soften-option that seems to do the trick.

However I now have a new problem with the terrain displacement when I set Terrain Detail in the Video settings to High or up as it forms a very sharp ridge where two textures meet.

I suppose this means the borders of the nopx have to match up colourwise? I'm just going to ignore it for now and get back to it later.
