Constant frame drops. Maximum frequency drops the problem? Help?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I've been playing ARMA 2 and 3 for a good long time now but lately i've been having some frame drop issues. They only seem to happen roughly 5 minutes after joining a server. I usually get around 25-30fps even in large built up areas but then once i've been in the server for a few minutes I get a frame drop down to 8 or 9 frames every 10 seconds or so.

I think i've hit most other frame drop topics and have tried a multitude of tweaks and tricks but haven't had any luck. This afternoon I did run the game on single player in the editor and on a multiplayer server with resource monitor open and while tabbed out the game appears to run fine but when tabbed back in there's a CPU maximum frequency drop the point of frame drops.

I run the game on mostly standard settings at 1080p. Shadows, post processing and all that junk disabled. View distance is set to about 160-180ish.

Here's a pic of my resource monitor just after I tabbed out to have a look http://oi39.tinypic.com/24o61on.jpg

I've reinstalled ARMA a couple of times hoping that would work and I don't have this particular problems on any other games I play(BF3, War Thunder, Project Cars ect) so i'm a bit lost to be honest. Any suggestions are more than welcome!

-Bill

Edit* Here's my spec

AMD Penom II X6 1055T processor at 2.80 Ghz

12gb RAM

Win 7 64-bit

AMD Radeon HD 6800, DirectX 11

Edit*2

I've also made sure windows firewall and my antivirus have arma listed in their exceptions.

Humm..., maybe set your power profile to 'performance'?

Set a3.exe priority to high? Or even set it to low for testing.

Could maybe d/l 'GameBooster3' --it stops un-needed progs & sets a power profile for gaming.

Keep us posted, GL!

Thanks for the reply!

I've tried setting a3.exe to high, i'll give it a try on low aswell. I'll see about downloading gamebooster too.

Control Panel->Power Options, click to show 'additional plans' and select 'high performance'. Go thru all the settings and make sure none are on powersaving mode or 'turn off after x amount of minutes'.

I'll give that a blast. Just reinstalled my gfx drivers aswell for shits and giggles. Let's hope something works!

Edit* That didn't seem to help either i'm afraid. I'm stumped!

5 minutes in eh?

Check your cpu temp? Might be a heat issue, dust-bunnies and such. Looked in your case lately?

[Gamebooster3 also shows core temps too.]

Thanks for the help chaps, turns out it was a heat issue with the CPUs and a whole colony of dust bunnies. Did the best I could with a hoover and some bog roll, stuck my tower on my desk and the airflow is a lot better. On my way into town now to buy a can of air so I can give the insides a proper clear out. Spent about an hour on ARMA this afternoon and i've had zero frame drops so all appears to be working now. Still runs pretty hot but hopefully with some elbow grease and a little patience I can get things running a bit cooler still.

Edit* Can an admin mark this thread as solved or am I able to edit the thread title myself. Can't seem to find an option anywhere.
