abs 2 Posted January 14, 2014 Hi all, I come to you with a challenge that I'm facing. My objective is to have a surface emit a blue colour without actually appearing blue itself. Basically, the effect I'm trying to achieve is like a blue atmosphere layer/halo around the globe, without making the planet itself look blue. Any ideas? Heinrich Kramer 172 Posted January 14, 2014 my first idea would be, to create a second sphere and give it a color alpha texture with roughly 2-5% opacity. no idea if this would work, though never tried something like this.
AlexVestin 24 Posted January 15, 2014 First thought. Maybe create a second sphere around it, but with inverted faces?
abs 2 Posted January 20, 2014 Whoops...turned out I forgot to subscribe to this thread. :/ Anyway, I had already tried the inverted sphere method, and it didn't look quite right, but it's the best solution that I have for now. http://i.imgur.com/FBivOeP.jpg Turns out that this method points the glow inward. What I'm looking for is a glow like this one, however: https://scontent-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/t31/1495216_695241987162802_2001796205_o.jpg Using a texture of 2-5% opacity doesn't work. My first attempt was to use the glass texture and apply the RVMAT to it...it still glows so blue that the small Earth sphere doesn't appear. :) I'm more than happy to try any other ideas.
