What is the gameplay purpose of the ORBAT

Basically, I am wondering what the ORBAT screen is for. Aside from giving information that's of no impact to gameplay (as far as I can tell), and looking nice... what does it do? Have I missed something obvious?

Well if the campaign author is good then you might be able to see the "progress" each side makes during the campaign. That is pretty cool.

I say it's "innovation" for the sake of it.

unless you get to play for both sides in a campaign, showing progress of the enemy spoils the fun.
