Kevin Maximo 0 Posted August 5, 2002 I have Windows XP Pro Geforce 4 4600 Sound Blaster Live Platinum Abit KT7-RAID this only happens in Resistance. I'll start game sometimes able to play for a short or happens in beginning. The sound will hang and keep repeating and hangs computer, can only shut down computer or reset can't Ctrl, Alt, Del or Alt+Tab, mouse and keyboard are also locked up. Mouse and keyboard are usb and I have the latest drivers for everything, usb filter 1.10, sound, video etc. Every other game I have works fine even OFP. It's only Resistance. nailbighter 0 Posted August 6, 2002 I bought Resistance and this happens to me as well.. I think this is most related to my post about WinXP and Sound cards...
TalonWolf 0 Posted August 12, 2002 Doubtful, this is exactly the error I get w/ OFP, AND w/ resistance. Has done this through several driver versions, of multiple pieces of hardware, even a bios upgrade. Current specs: Windows 98SE AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.3Ghz Processor ASUS A7A266 Motherboard (note A7A, this is an ALi Chipset, latest bios I could find) 512 Mb PC2100 DDR RAM ATi Radeon 64 Mb DDR VIVO (4.13.01.9309, catalyst drivers from june) SBLive! MP3+5.1 (stock drivers, can't find anything from creative) Robotics 56k Performance Pro Modem NEC DV5700A 12x DVD ROM Drive LG 16x10x40x CDRW drive 2x Maxtor 40Gb 5400RPM HDD I AM running DAEMON, but I believe this started before that, just that someone brought up cloneCD, and this is...somewhat...related. TalonWolf 0 Posted August 12, 2002 Oh, just a couple more bits of info. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling (didn't restart between, though), no dice. I haven't been able to pick up the new creative drivers (playcenter 3)....site doesn't seem to like me. It's happened to me... when I use the blackhawk (OFP), when I used the motorcycle (OFPR), and also during an MP game when I was just running (kinda) around as a sniper. I have NOT been running RW at the same time. It's unlikely it's heat, because I was just at a LAN party in a warm room, and the thing ran fine the whole time (not OFP, but the comp), and it's practically right next to an AC right now. harlanpepper 0 Posted August 13, 2002 Same happens to me.  When I first installed Resistance (had 1.46) it ran great.  A couple days later, I'm in the campaign at maybe the 3rd or 4th mission and the audio starts looping... sytem totally frozen.  No mouse.  No ALT+TAB, ctrl+alt+del, etc.  When I tried to restart Resistance, it would hang at desktop (total freeze again) right after the little rectangular resistance logo appeared in the middle of the screen.  Reinstalled everything from cd  (US retail -> Gold Upgrade -> 1.46 patch -> resistance).  No luck.  Updated to latest video/audio drivers (29.42 for the video) and tried T&L on/off, updated to DirectX 8.1b, still crashing at desktop right before the game would start.  Restart & get the same thing. My system: win2000 sp2 Abit KG7 RAID mobo Athlon 1.4 768MB DDR RAM (3x256mb crucial registered) Geforce4 4600 video Hercules Gametheater XP sound 1.46 still works fine, thankfully, as do all my other games.  Bummer, as Resistance looked great the 2 days it was working.  First post.
harlanpepper 0 Posted August 16, 2002 Quick update on my post above... I have now installed win2000 service pack 3, reinstalled DirectX 8.1b, cleared out any codemasters folders in regedit, and did a full reinstall of resistance from the start. (no firewall software running, and all original discs - OFP, Gold Upgrade, and Resistance)  Same freeze at the desktop right before game would usually start.  This is driving me nuts!  1.46 is still working fine. One curious thing that I noticed when I restarted my computer and windows was loading up (directly after the system freeze)... a block of text appeared in the middle of the screen that indicated some kind of file problem was detected on my C: drive (where i installed ofp) and there was a list of files - all of which were Flashpoint/Resistance files.  It mentioned something about them being "truncated", I believe.  The message also said it would attempt to fix the problems.  Of course, the text disappeared before I could write the specific files down.  They were all resistance-related, though. Resistance was in each file path. Hoping a patch comes out soon.  I've tried everything I can think of  (BIOS AGP 2x to 4x back to 2x, changed aperature 64/128, reinstalled, defragged HD, DirectX, updated video & audio drivers, bought a new video card, turned on/off t&l, turned on/off EAX, crossed my fingers, etc.) Emailed BIS for some assistance last weekend.  Here's hoping. Oh yeah, 2nd post.

harlanpepper 0 Posted August 20, 2002 Problem seems to be solved for my case. Reinstalled the VIA 4in1 drivers and I seem to be up & running again. I made some other changes at the same time, but I think it was the VIA drivers that did it. Will update if I have another meltdown, but so far so good!
