Can Someone Tell Me About A.C.R.E?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to the Arma series (but played Operation Flashpoint to death!). Can someone tell me a bit about the A.C.R.E addon? How does it work? What does it do? Can I get it? And should I be excited? I've posted this in the Mission Editing because I assume that's where it gets used?

It's a plugin for ArmA3 and TeamSpeak which ties Teamspeak in with in game radios in ArmA. So if you use your normal push to talk key it does directional local chat around you, not many people will hear you. If you press CAPSLOCK (by default) it'll transmit over your radio and anyone else in your channel who is on the same radio channel as you will hear you. Terrain, distance, weather, radio power all will work to disrupt the signal sometimes. So if you're in a valley talking to someone else in another valley the signal will be warbly. Once either of you climb to the top of the mountain you'll have a clear signal again.

It's really great for large groups playing the game since you can have 50 people all in the same teamspeak channel but only hear those physically around you or on your own channel in game. For smaller groups it's more of a pain then anything.

ACRE doesn't belong here, it is an addon+plugin. The only domain we have is in mission editing by placing down an ACRE radio box from the Empty category onto the map.

ACRE is an advanced radio system that integrates TS3 giving you local 3D positional voice chat and custom radio channels to use to cut down on unnecessary chatter (adds realism aspect too). You need to get CBA, JayArmaLib3 and ACRE addons, follow the directions on installing ACRE, plop a radio box down on a test map and then spend many hours troubleshooting with unit members.
