Sound bug in resistance?

Recommended Posts

The topic description pretty much sums it up: the music in Resistance gets stuck in a loop. It plays for about two seconds, pauses for about half a second and then repeats. This happens during cutscenes and in the game. I've noticed that if I quickly press the escape key when the music pauses, the music resumes before looping again after two seconds. I don't have this problem in the original Operation Flashpoint game.

This is getting annoying, really really fast. It's always something. If those shitty ATI drivers for my Radeon 8500 aren't acting up, then it's something else, like this.

I guess it's back to Morrowind for me, although that game has its issues too...

Athlon 1400 Mhz, MS-6330 Lite, 512 Mb SDRAM

Hercules 3D Prophet 8500LE 64 Mb

VIA AC97 audio controller

I'm glad I'm not the only one, although I don't find this very amusing. sad.gif

Small update:

When Resistance launches, the music plays correctly, but the very moment I open the sound options menu (with the radio voice, shooting and music) or start a game, the music begins looping. Maybe it has something to do with sound effects as well?

I'm running Windows 98SE and DirectX 8.1. DXDIAG doesn't unveil any problems, although it does report that my sound card doesn't support hardware buffering (???). My current sound card driver is VIAUDIO.SYS (ver 5.12.01.3120).

God knows I'm not a tweaker. I'm just hoping we can get this fixed.

Well, I've installed the most recent VIA AC97 drivers (5.12.01.3800), and I've got good news and bad news.

The good news is that the looping of music and sound has stopped. The bad news is that the sound (and gameplay!!! ) often gets choppy, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes for over a minute. I've tried decreasing the hardware acceleration, both in the DXDIAG Sound Panel and the Configuration/Multimedia panel, to no avail.

BIS, take note!!

I've found a VIA AC97 driver (5.10.00.3622) on the site of my motherboard manufacturer (MSI) which seems, seems to be holding up. Played for a short while without hiccups. I'll keep you posted.

Too bad. Although I feel duration and frequency have decreased, the game and sound still gets choppy from time to time.
