The Beta brings with it a new performance thread. More testing to follow.

I tried changing my theme to Windows Classic, solid desktop background, all appearance settings deactivated, all Nvidia settings to performance and all non-essential background progams and processes shut down... didn't make a difference.

Whatever tweaking you do -- you do it in-game.

slight update to the PhysX driver link and to the Startup Parameters. I will be doing a new round of benchmarking when the next patch (0.76) is out.
