A3B Countermeasures Fix

Recommended Posts

So, this is a small addon, created in an even smaller amount of time, to give the armchair Beta pilots something a little more user friendly while the Beta is put through its paces. I'll keep this short, as the Readme.txt pretty much sums it all up anyways:

Hello ArmAversians! This small addon will change the way the Countermeasures Launcher works which is currently found on a few of the helicopters in the Beta of ArmA 3. Now, I'm no Airman, nor an Aircraft Technician, but reality aside for a moment, the current setup of the Flare/Chaff Launcher is, in my humble opinion, horrid. Using 60 Flares to shake one missile is downright absurd I feel, at least in a gaming sense. Anyways, this Addon simply makes some, I'll call them "tweaks" here, as maybe this is how BI intends it to be, which will be described below.

Changes:

CMLauncher now has the fire mode for Semi-Automatic. It was already configured as such, it just needed to be added as a mode.

Burst will now fire 5 times, instead of 10, using 4 each burst instead of 6. Thit means that, whereas a burst before would use up 60 Flares/Chaff, it will now only use 20. This was to try and stay in the vein of BI's setup, but be a little less wasteful. In theory, one should be able to shake three times the amount of missiles now. Or have their pretty light show last three times longer.

In closing, I hope this is found useful. This was by no means difficult nor time consuming, but sometimes the changes needed are simple ones. I personally found the current setup apalling. Yes, it is Beta, I know. Nothing is indicative of a final product. But, for now, as we stress test other things, this small little annoyance (At least is one for me), can be remedied. Good luck, and have fun mashing your Countermeasure key!

Installation: The standard of Mod Folder Installation is in effect. Simply take the @A3B_CMFix folder, put it in your root ArmA 3 folder, and add it to your launch line.

Any questions, concerns, suggestions, or flamings can be posted here or PM'd to me. Have fun, and have a great week! Congrats to BI on Beta Status by the way!

Hm, I was wondering why we had semi flare mode in A2 but not A3. I could see this as a very useful mod. Now if someone could just fix have less than 3 seconds to apply flares, not counting if you saw the AA specialist.

Well, ArmA's scale has always been finicky when Anti-Air comes in to play, at least for me. I mean, in a real life scenario, the missiles currently fired at aircraft can be insanely fast. For example, the newest Igla missile has a range of 6000M and can reach up to 400m/s. By way of comparison, Takistan wasn't but a little over 10km diagnonally, to fly across that is. So it's hard I would say, to get the balance between game and reality just right. Personally, I'd of liked to have seen a way to shake missiles without CM's. I mean, this isn't Top Gun, nor any other flick where it's a simple loop and you're home free, but you can't tell me pilots haven't evaded missiles without Countermeasures.

But, I digress, in reference to your point, I personally have had adequate time to deploy flares. That being said, Stratis is but a wee baby island, so scale wise, for most operations, your ass might be damn near on top of an AA site, depending on the mission you're playing. So I can agree on the whole, that I think the system still needs some tweaking to allow for an adequate representation of military technology, AND give players, because after all this is a game, a slight chance to represent the pilot's end of it. Though A3 is still young, still Beta, and on the whole, BI has never disappointed me. I hope for the continued improvement, and honestly, I'd like the whole: "Hey, you're in an Armored Vehicle, what's that? Bush? DEATH TO YOUR INSOLENT FACE!" Damage model to be revamped. I find it funny that the initial public Alpha wasn't so bad, and I said to my friends: "Hurray guise, no more silly damage when mastering the fern in your lawn with your brand new Hunter!". Then it was just Nope.patch.sadface.

I've updated this to v0.2 to handle the new patch, removal of the 180Rnd CM Mag, and additions of new mags. Should work the same as before now, this time with no errors.
