Cablebox 10 Posted May 7, 2013 I have a question regarding the JSRS mod. Several people, including staff, are pushing to add the JSRS mod plugin (or whatever is needed for clients to be able to use it) on our Takistan Life Server (inb4 TL:R is worse than Hitler and DayZ combined). When we brought up adding the JSRS plugin thingy to our mission file, the head developer shot it down saying that it adds a bunch of more security threats (i.e. making it easier for people to inject scripts). My question is; does adding the JSRS mod to our mission file present so much of a security threat that we would never even think about using it? Note that we have a very long ban list and haven't had a major scripting incident in a while. I'm not trying to discount the developer's word. All I'm trying to do is get others opinions. Also, if you have ever run a public multiplayer server that uses JSRS, would you say that the amount of cheating incidents increased? Would you recommend us adding the JSRS mod? Thank you for your time.
Kushluk 21 Posted May 7, 2013 Clientside sound mods such as CHAMMY, RWS, JSRS and ACEX_SM are not added into mission files or gametypes. Allowing the use of these 'clientside' mods is done in the server configuration and setup by adding its signatures to your server. This way, anyone can optionally use the news sounds without altering the server or other players, since most mainstream sounds packs do not provide any significant gameplay advantage. Basically you should whitelist the handful of generic sound mods whilst blacklisting everything else. For example you could add the following mod signatures to your list: @TLR and @JSRS. If three people tried to join your server the following would happen -mod=@TLR <- GRANTED ACCESS [This user is using the life mod with stock sounds] -mod=@TLR;@JSRS <- GRANTED ACCESS [both the life mod and an approved sound mod were used] -mod=@TLR;@ACE <- DENIED ACCESS [@ACE is not on the approved signatures list] As for security holes/threats... as far as I am aware, JSRS and other sound mods do not decrease security. Here is some information on signatures: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Addon_Signatures#Controlling_addon_signature_verification_on_the_server
Guest Posted May 7, 2013 JSRS related questions belong in the JSRS thread! §7) Search before postingIf you have a question, please use the forum search function before posting to make sure that it hasn't been answered before. There is a big chance it has, not only does searching help to keep the forum free of multiple threads it will also help you to get an answer much quicker. §8) Post in the right forum & right thread Please ensure you make new threads in the correct forum, if you're unsure of which forum to post in feel free to ask a moderator. If a thread exists for the topic you wish to post about you must use it, for example all ACE questions belong in the ACE thread. All addon/mod questions belong in the thread for that addon/mod. In the case of DayZ discussions they should be posted on the DayZ forums, this includes problems with the Modification. The troubleshooting forum is not for problems with Addons and Mods! http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?104514-J-S-R-S-1-
