EveronVetsAgainstTheWar 1 Posted July 19, 2002 Well I already know a little (un peux?) French because I took a couple years of it when I lived in Germany.  I just thought it might be interesting to do service in 2 different Militaries... Uh oh I just thought of something.  What if the US calls me a traitor and sends me to jail for 20 years like John Walker Linhd Sure I'd lose the rank but it's not like Id be that high anyway.  And then when I go to join the Air Force I'd already know military lifestyle... The time thing is a problem though.  With my 1 yr break after high school then french foreign legion, then college, then airforce, I'd be 26 before before I'd be a 2nd Lt. in the airforce... Does Germany have a foreign legion?  I know more german thant french. :\ I just think it would be a very enriching expirience to have served in 2 militaries.  Except for that traitor  thing :\ I'm gonna talk to people about it, keep it in my mind. Edit: They have goofy hats. And you don't get a car until 5 yrs! Hmm...
ran 0 Posted July 19, 2002 don't worry some people join the french foreign legion without even knowing how to say yes in french germany doesn(t have any equivalent in germany or in europe (and world , i think) you can't be called traitor since france and usa are both in nato and are civilized occidental countries

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted July 19, 2002 Nah, come on Ran, la legion etrangere has definetly changed during the last decades, but it is still a melting pot for all kinds of cultures and people, and most of them are not the most pleasant ones. A few decades ago germans made up 40% of the legion because it helped them to hide themselves. But it is still a very odd legion! I think it is not long ago since they changed the code of honour of the legion etrangere: Now it is still something like: you have to fulfill any order at any cost! Except the fact they added something like: if it is in accordance with the Geneva convention. Sure you gonna see a lot of the world, but definetly not the most welcoming environments. The french Legion trains French Guyana (tell me if I am wrong), this is dirty hard training there that often goes beyond what should be allowed. I am sure that the Marines are strong people but those french legion soldiers are mentally so destroyed that they basically do everything. And I am pretty much sure they have been in more dangerous missions than we know (and probably left a lot of lifes). The only country in Europe that takes soldiers and offers them citizenship beside france is Luxembourg. It is some kind of promotion. Did you know that the French legion is the only legion that is allowed to marsh less steps per minute than any other division (any other walks the same amount).
