Graphics Driver Has Stopped Working And Recovered

Recommended Posts

Ok so we've all seen this error message before at some point, so i don't need to go over the exact error...

But i get this when loading the game, in any format (windowed, full screen) as admin, in compatibility modes, everything...

NOW For once i don't want people to go "it's something or other overheating", or "it's cos your using integrated graphics"

I can run arma 2 perfectly find, absolutely fine, so it's not that, i'm putting it down to bohemia not having Integrated cards as compatible with the game, and i do hope they fix this.

So yes, if anyone has any fixes for the driver crashing please post ;)

Regards

Pouchey2

*Edit* Ps: I can also run Battlefield 3 perfectly fine, which i would assume is a demanding game... This is just another example to show that my card would be capable of running the game if it was allowed to.

Sorry but there is no other explanation, "Graphics Driver Has Stopped Working And Recovered" means overheating or unstable overclock.

And the reason it's "crashing" is quite simple, it's happening because driver "thinks" there is something wrong and wants to avoid hardware damage (most likely because 1 of the above reasons) and switching to 2D clocks to drop temperature/clocks.

If you're sure it's not that you can try to reinstall drivers using this guide.

You can blame A3 for bad performance etc. but not for this. ;)

try adding -nobenchmark in the games launch options.

I had the same problem and after adding that, it started without any problems.

Oh btw. there is another possibility, the reason might be that you have VSYNC OFF which can cause the GPU to overheat it by displaying huge fps numbers like 100-200+ (this can happen for example in main menu, or when loading game), if you put VSYNC ON it will limit FPS to your monitor refresh rate (usually 60Hz which will limit the fps rendering to 60 fps) and should stop overheating.

Its not overheating. Its a well known issue (nvidia driver/arma3 combination). A lot of entries about this problem can be found in the bugtracker.

http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=579

Some quotes:

Game crashes randomly on launch, or upon joining a game with this message. I am using dual monitors.
Occurs in multiplayer game-browser randomly as well.
I did encounter this one more time immediately upon joining a game. I also encountered it several times in the multiplayer game browser while trying to refresh and while trying to sort by players. And finally a few times just after launching the game.

Which makes me pretty sure it's caused by:

Check out the GPU usage at top right corner with VSYNC OFF - http://i.imgur.com/yfXTdMJ.jpg (and if you have better GPU, the usage will be even higher and it will constantly try to render more frames, which will stress the GPU just like some benchmarking tools like Furmark, and then crash. It will be even worse with SLI/CF.)

Sometime ago i had same issue in Minecraft main menu, where my GPU was rendering over 300 fps instantly overheating it to the maximum and crashing it later.

It happens totally random, sometimes on start, sometimes in the menu and sometimes after playing a long time.

The temperature of my card is around 75°C when the crash occures (even lower if it crashes very early). So its hard to believe that overheating is the reason...

My VSync is enabled btw

Then:

A) You have vsync-off overriding in Nvidia control panel (and it will stay OFF even if you have it ON in game options)

B) Unstable OC

I think i've explained it pretty well (disregarding my bad english), and it makes sense. ;)

Cheers for the responses guys

ZeroSeven you god xD

adding -nobenchmark has worked ;)

And the game runs smoother than my ARMA 2 ever did xD

Default clock and the driver vsync setting is default (the application can decide).

now you know why i am so confused about your overheating statement :D

Edit: Disabled vsync, pushed up to 91°C. No driver crash after playing some minutes with 91°C

-benchmark Intended for automated benchmarking, but was never finished and is not working.

I dont think there is even -nobenchmark variable, sigh.

I'm gone from this thread, explained everything but it seems you know better so deal with it yourself.

So yes problem solved

Thank you for your responses anyway

I'll keep them in mind in case any other problems arise

Great it worked for you, but you do realise such command does not exist, and -benchmark exist but it doesn't work right?

If no such command exists, why has it solved the problem?

It must do something, or my problem wouldn't be solved...

Adding -nobenchmark, has allowed me to run my game, without it, it doesn't...

So yeah :\

I'm confused now but it still works
