rawalanche 13 Posted March 9, 2013 Hello... i have been a long time fan of ArmA series, and played all the games since first release OFP. I mostly played single player and spent countless hours playing around with modded content in editor, but i never really got into the multiplayer aspect of any of the ArmA games, up until now. I have played some mainstream shooters such as Battlefield, Unreal or Planetside. I tried multiplayer in ArmA 2 once but i reached same obstacle as i did in case of A3 Alpha: I know that when this game is still in Alpha phase and when multiplayer content is unlocked only for those who got the paid version, i should not expect multiplayer community to be large, but i encountered same problems even with ArmA 2, which had it's online community on a peak back in the time when i tried to get into multiplayer. I just struggle to find many good servers to play on. Here are the problems i encountered: - For some reason, unlike many other multiplayer games i played, most of the A3 servers are password locked... not minority of them, but majority. - When i limit servers only to those with acceptable ping and those without password protection, all i am left with are mostly servers with COOP scenario or with some wasteland game mode that i find to be quite boring and mainly it brings my framerate to crawl even on my GTX670 GPU. - There are usually only about 1-2 servers on entire world with game mode style that i enjoy and that are not password protected. Like mode where you capture flag posts to advance further, and other team is trying to slow you down. I think such game modes are awesome, and promote teamplay in competitive (not cooperative) environment. But out of those few servers, most of them are either empty or full. I am thinking that mistake is most probably on my side, as i have no understanding of ArmA games multiplayer ecosystem. So i would be thankful to someone who would take time to explain me how ArmA 3 multiplayer ecosystem works, and how to enjoy multiplayer experience. I had an occasional luck finding some servers with flag capture scenarios (about 2 of 20 attempts) and once i got onto the server, i enjoyed the game extremely much. But it was finding the good server to play on what was the biggest trouble. I remember when i played Battlefield when it came out and there were thousands of populated team competition servers. I am mostly interested about why majority of servers is password locked, why people play team based competitive scenarios only rarely, unlike coop and wasteland scenarios, and what should i do to improve my multiplayer experience. oHOWEo 1 Posted March 9, 2013 Hello, Most of the servers are hosted by people playing the game on their connection. People password lock them when they just want to play with people they know. On more than one occasion when I have hosted a game a player will join half way through a mission and team kill everyone. You can always host your own game, if you do get a troublesome player join if you press the map button you can click "players" and kick them. When I search for servers and put them in order of ping I get around 25 servers under 100ms yet if I set a filter to show only under 100ms it returns no results so maybe leave the ping filter off. Thanks... Yes, i usually sort servers by ping rather than limiting ping in filter, as server filter still seems to be bugged. I get usually about 50 servers with ping under 100ms, but 60% of them PW locked leaves me at about 22 severs, and out of those 22, half are empty, that leaves me at about 11, and out of those 11, only about 1-2 play non-cooperative game mode.
