mmaruda 20 Posted March 9, 2013 Hi all! I feel kind of lost when it comes to getting the most performance out of Arma 3. I have what I consider a descent rig - i5 2500K@4,5Gh, 8Gb RAM, GTX 680. Now while I see the influence of graphics settings when I am all alone in the editor, any of the showcase missions begins at around 50-60 FPS and drops down to 30 when some AI units are near. Whatever I set, it's a solid 30 and that is it. It's very playable at that frame rate, but still it seems weird. Initially I was thinking my GFX card was overheating and the downclock kicks in, but I tested in GPU-Z and that is not the case. Any ideas what is the cause? Iroquois Pliskin 0 Posted March 9, 2013 Do you have VSync enabled? It will hard cap your FPS, if it ever drops below your monitor's refresh rate.
mmaruda 20 Posted March 9, 2013 That was it. Now I get above 50. I though vsync was only to cut FPS at the monitor's refresh rate. Thanks man!
JojoTheSlayer 35 Posted March 9, 2013 If anyone is wondering. GTX680 and up has frame checking, or whatever its called, which reduces screen tear. It only works with vsync off. So if you have a GTX680 one should really run games with vsync off from now on for those two reasons.
