alt-tab influences fps and loading times

Every time I boot up the game and play a session, at first the game runs really sluggish. I first have to alt-tab to windows and back to the game before everything runs smooth again. Fortunately I only have to do this once...after that I can go back and forth between editor and in-game without any problems.

Another thing I noticed is that when I die and restart it loads for about 6 seconds or so but when I alt-tab to windows (right after I press restart, only takes about 1 sec) i'm back in-game already.

I have never experienced anything like this in any other game I played before. Does anyone else encounter these problems? Perhaps it has something to do with Steam? Any help is appreciated!

CPU: Intel i5 2500 @ 4.0ghz

RAM: 8GB

GPU: Asus GTX 560 Ti

I have just noticed that alt-tabbing will considerably improve the framerate after launching the game and also after changing the graphics settings ingame.

My GPU is also an 560 Ti, the processor is a 2500K.
