cybrid 0 Posted July 9, 2002 Has anyone here ever been to the forums on the official IL2 sturmovik site? There are no moderators there, and if there are, none of them do their job. There are flame wars and all kinds of stuff that would not be tolerated here. Yet people seem to get along ok, more or less, and most use the honur system. I don't know how their forum is now but when I was there from December-Feburary this is how things were. So begs the question, what would the OFP forums be like under those conditions? I see people with postcounts of over 11,000, and i'm sure thats not even the highest. Flamewars run rampant, spamming isn't policed...Its just not even fun. Used to have an account there when i was a LW sniper, but i couldnt connect to games anymore for some reason, so i quit. But yeah, that place was a hole. MDRZulu 0 Posted July 9, 2002 In my opinion ( Mods take this in terms of a make beleive forum in no way associated with this forum and that is my intention so if someone else thinks I mean this forum you should punish them not me) I think spamming should be allowed in a spam or off topic section as long as it is just fun and Im sure alot of people can agree that spam can be fun. I think people should be able to say what they want given the exception that its not racist, or cheating etc etc. So in that case I think flamewars (like comparing and contrasting different militaries) are acceptable as long as they dont cross the line into racism etc etc. Once again I am not directing this to this forum or any of the mods so dont ban me please. fraggit 0 Posted July 9, 2002 cybrid, I'm not sure if you know this, but this place before Jan. 2002 (?) had no mods. It was out of control imho. I mean I saw so many racist and spam threads that this place started to become unenjoyable, at least to me. So the no mods thing has been around here. Mora2 0 Posted July 9, 2002 Welll....maybe i just ignored the racist threads....but Devil´s sucka posts against the world and fakes were very funny...i remember everyone spammimg him...he had a response for every single member...i think the phrase he heard more was:Devil get a life...it was kinda the forum vs Devil. I also enjoyed Some Spam threads which were quite funny.... And i spent much more time reading before Mods than i do know....maybe taht is because in that time addons and those things were beginning to emerge and some things now just don´t impress me ..... ralphwiggum 6 Posted July 9, 2002 probably becuase of audience level. thesedays, it seems like flight sims are mostly favorites of mature enthusiasts. let's face it, there won't be a 14yr old who thinks he's so cool flying around and firing missiles like CS, when the game itself is geared more towards realism. so naturally, the users of the game will gravitate towards mature ones. while as CS or DF, kiddies run amok thinking they are 'l33t' or something, and thus forum contracts those idiots who abuse anonymosity of internet. This forum is between both extreme. we do have mature participants like Mister Frag and PitViper, and some kiddies who just spam around this forum. that is the problem. we have equal chance of making a mature flame-less forum and childish flame-broiled burnt forum. So to be more dignifying, we need to have moderators working, and with Gimbal, Denoir, and Ex-Ronin, I think we can safely say that most of the time, forum policying can be maintained. (However, there are some points i do not like in some decisions made by mods..but that's another story) so we are more vulnerable to graffity by kiddies than a game forum that is naturally composed of mature gamers. so it's sad, but we do need some policying around here. But then again, it would probably get so spammed you would get 1 pic of girls and guns for every 100 spam responses! It seems to be very hard for a forum to get a balance between some good natured silliness without rampant/nasty spamming, and moderation without over-policing and ruining the fun... Guest Posted July 9, 2002 The good thing about Flashpoint is that it mostly attracts mature players. However now and then we get our load of bad apples or some mature member decides to freak out. Then moderation is needed. Not to say when people for some reason have a hard time learning in which forums to post stuff.
