Moscowy 1 Posted January 28, 2013 May I start by saying I am anxiously awaiting the release of this game, and it is surely to be one of the best. Though after watching this video, (youtube, can't post link) /watch?v=efC6gAO6exA, which contains a short overview of some of the game mechanics I had some questions. 1.Is it necessary to be wearing the scuba gear while underwater? (Can anyone, wearing any outfit, swim underwater even if limited by the time they have oxygen or air?) 2.Is the ability to disguise oneself still available, and if so will your team still know who you are, or are there ways of communicating to your team who you are? 3.Can the player enter the majority of all of the buildings? ( I was disappointed at how many buildings I found without interiors in Arma 2, but I noticed an improvement in Operation Arrowhead.) I understand that the game is still under development and some of these aspects could still be changing. I also understand that some questions may remain a mystery for the player to discover after the game is released. Thanks for any information.

Based on the information from the last glimpse anyone in the public got of Arma 3, which was at Gamescom 2012...1. To my knowledge, you can still swim in any outfit though diving goggles may actually affect your sight while underwater (since without them your character's eyes might be exposed to saltwater!). 2. As of the Gamescom 2012 build clothes changing is still in, though apparently you can now only change uniforms within your own faction -- so "disguise yourself as the enemy" is no longer available by default, although the official single-player campaign may have a workaround for this that wouldn't be by default in the Editor. 3. Most buildings being enterable is still a design goal, but without a community alpha we have no idea how far along that would be -- plus last we heard, only the smaller of Arma 3's two islands (Stratis) would be in the community alpha anyway, not the larger Limnos. Moscowy 1 Posted January 29, 2013 Thanks for the reply, and I realized that video was very old when I went back to close it. Also I heard about the community alpha while watching some other, more recent, videos from the team, and I am extremely excited for that. I can't wait to see the progress this very talented team has made. It does disappoint me to hear, though, the disguise system may be removed from the final product or at least constricted to pre-scripted moments. I thought that would be a fun mechanic to play around with in the editor in order to create more interesting infiltration type missions. I came up with another question though, while playing Arma 2. I was wondering if the warfare, or a similar game mode is supposed to be included in Arma 3. I thought to ask because I saw people say they didn't like warfare, but I enjoyed it, other than the difficult to command AI which is, from what I hear, being improved on in Arma 3. ^Th0mas^ 10 Posted January 29, 2013 A bit off-topic, but after testing Hitman Absolution I hate everything about a disguise system. The game just proves how badly the AI can handle this. But guess there will be mods for this anyway.
instagoat 133 Posted January 29, 2013 You can still wear enemy Uniforms, but they won´t work as disguise simply because of AI problems. If swimming, you need to wear scuba gear if you want to stay under water for any amount of time, or you will drown. All buildings where this makes sense will be enterable. BI devs have stated something like 90% of all structures. And also, all of this has been mentioned in the "Confirmed features" thread.
chortles 263 Posted January 29, 2013 I believe it was the former Arma 3 project lead Dan Musil who cited unspecified multiplayer gameplay issues as the reason that the disguise system was so scaled back, however I have no idea if they were the same sort that ^Th0mas^ encountered in Hitman: Absolution. Seeing as we do have some level of collaboration between the Arma 3 and DayZ standalone teams, an early DayZ dev goal for Chernarus Plus was that every building be either enterable or that its unenterable status be more visibly overt -- for example, with boarded-up windows. No idea whether that standard will be used in Arma 3, but this means that someone at BI had an idea on "the other 10%". ;)
