giorox 1 Posted December 15, 2012 Hello, i would like to announce my first addon project. As it stands the model itself isn't something jaw dropping though what i invision doing with said model will be (at least in my mind) something great. It is a addon divided into 2 different models, the Command Launching Unit (CLU), which is 2 meters tall by 1.1 meter wide and long, with the actual antenna being roughly 15~20 centimeters, and the Precision Attack Munition (PAM) missile, which is about 1.5 meters long and roughly 180MM in diameter. So far the CLU model has 2 resoultion LODS, even though it being low poly, the geometry LOD, Fire Geometry LOD and a Roadway geometry LOD on top (if you feel like getting a missile up your crotch :L). Roughly what the CLU model looks like as of V3.0 (No textures): So far the model is at 140 faces, 122 points and 3 sections. Though it isn't my intention to change it, i would like some feedback on what i could improve (:
nodunit 397 Posted December 15, 2012 Welcome to modding :) You may not need that extra resolution LOD if your polycount is so low, these are mostly there for high poly meshes that are so dense they need to be dropped by half per LOD as to not drain resources when in distance. With such a low count I don't think you'll need to worry about this. Since you are looking for feedback on improvements..the antenna at the top could be a bit thicker, I'm assuming it is what is on top of the unit in this image http://img.ph.126.net/q_wohbD3MvkWl-53s4jv-g==/2387189277499861236.jpg in which case you could delete the bottom cylinder and drop it down, so that the current thickest portion is the base. Duplicate the object and then drag it up some, upsize it a bit and make the top wider. Oh and don't forget to give it a shadow LOD so that the game won't try to generate it's own and make those nasty artifacts you see in the screenshots. Just remember that shadow LOD meshes can NOT have open faces, must be triangulated \ key, and sharp faced.
giorox 1 Posted December 15, 2012 (edited) If possible, i would like some help when it comes to the wreck of the CLU. As it stands i have no idea on how to do it, and would love to have some insight on the subject. Edited December 19, 2012 by Giorox
