That's a leap of immense proportions. I dont think for a minute that the US has a problem with closer North/South Korean unity. After all, it's hardly likely that the totally xenophobic form of socialism practised by the North Kroeans has a hope of becoming prevalent in the South! Time will tell I suppose... ralphwiggum 6 Posted July 2, 2002 the structure of ROK(south korea;republic of korea) military is not actually under its own command. except for some paratroopers, US force in Korea has the ultimate decision in most sense. almost every ROK troop movement has to be notified to US troops, and some require US's approval. in peace time, ROK does have command over its own troops on most actions, but in case of war, the authority automatically shifts to US forces. the reason why DPRK(north korea;democratic people's republic of Korea) always blame US is becuase of two things 1.US's intervention foiled DPRK's attempt to win the war during Korean war 2.current ceasefire treaty was signed between US and DPRK, not ROK and DPRK. so DPRK know that without US forces, they could have chance of inflicting significant harm on ROK. but presence of US assures that DPRK will be undoubtly be overrun should war begin. this yakking is nothing. they always do that, and they always whine

ralphwiggum 6 Posted July 2, 2002 there has been unconfirmed reports that DPRK's helicopter, capable of carrying 30 ppl were dispatched btw where DPRK's ship was stationed and PyongYang(North's capital) so it seems like they did suffer heavy casualty too.
