Generic objects with two texture sheets.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm currently making a set of generic signposts, and because of the nature of them, some of them use two texture sheets.

I was wondering if this is a complete no-no, or is it just best to try to avoid this..?

These signs will be used across the entire map, so they'll be pretty numerous so thought this would justify another sheet.

Is this ok engine wise?

Cheers guys,

Marc

You want to use the least number of sections possible to get the effect you want. A section is a unique texture and material combination. The fewer the better, but you must weigh that against the flexibility of your approach and the ease of creation. If two sections instead of one helps you get to where you want to go, I don't think the extra section will really matter.

Hi Max,

Thanks for letting me know that- it puts my mind at rest a bit, as I'd heard it's best to cull the amount of textures for some objects where possible.

I suppose in some places, it's plain impossible to use just one texture for say, a huge complex building.

cheers man.

I took a look at BI signs_e... and noticed 3 different "texture sheets", as well as many render stages for them on RVMATs... saludos!

Lol... that's mad.

Mind you, I suppose they're overlaying all the alpha texts of place names by the look of it..?

yup :)

EDIT: Why don't you just use BI textures and make your own letter display? That's seems to be quite faster and you can stay in the safe side of modding... I mean, sometimes is not necessary to do all the stuff on your own just to get polished results...

Cheers fo the suggestion Robster, but the ones I'm doing are symbolic things like hazard signs etc...

Thread cleaned.

If we could possibly keep this thread on topic, and not as a show and tell thread, that would be great. If you have something to show and wish to talk about it, perhaps you should make a thread in the A&M: D forum. Users look for answers in these forums, including me. It is frustrating to have to read through a pile of fluff to get an answer.

Project Reality discussions must take place in the Project Reality thread. If PR wants to make a WIP thread in the A&M: D forum, they may do that.

Thank you.
