xAce1208x 1 Posted August 19, 2012 First of all I just want to say hello because I am new to this forum as well as the ArmA series itself. Anyway, my problem is, is that I am currently a private rank in multiplayer, and I want to fly the planes and helicopters in multiplayer, but when I’m right up the aircraft’s cockpit, the game doesn’t allow me to get in the cockpit. Do I have to be at a certain rank to fly planes, or do I have to do something in the game to make myself a pilot and/or engineer? I've been looking all over for an answer, but came up with nothing, which is why I finally decided to post here. Cheers. :)
kylania 568 Posted August 19, 2012 That's not the game, that's part of that particular mission. There are no "ranks" in multiplayer ArmA like a traditional shooter. Every mission is entirely standalone and has nothing to do with any other mission. In those kinds of missions just kill things to gain rank usually, or sometimes it's time that gets you the rank. Other times the mission make decides only pilots can fly for example. So the reason you can't find a simple answer is because it's completely up to the mission maker and no mission is alike. :)
xAce1208x 1 Posted August 19, 2012 yeah its like everytime i jump into a server, there are players who a flying aircrafts but i cant....how do i make myself a pilot anyway?
kylania 568 Posted August 19, 2012 Many of the public missions you'll play are going to be Domination style missions. Those vary a lot, but for the most part there will be some "pilot slots". These will be models in the pilot suits. By default this doesn't really mean much since anyone can drive any vehicle. However since many public players are umm... "special" and try to fly and just crash because they are entirely skilless, mission makers try to limit who can fly so that their helicopters aren't always crashed and burned so they limit by rank or limit by player slot or limit by playerID or anything. So when playing these kinds of missions to "make yourself a pilot" just get in and try to fly. If you're not kicked out, congrats! You're a pilot! If you are kicked out check Settings/Notes or something for what you need to do to be able to fly. I HIGHLY suggest learning to fly in the editor before trying to fly in multiplayer. Hud Dorph 22 Posted August 19, 2012 I give you some good allaround mp pilot advise. As said earlier its mission dependant, on my server as an example you have to play on server 30 mins before you can fly the attack planes/choppers, this to avoid players comming in, crashing all planes then leave again. And good advice would be to practice flying in singleplayer before flying in mp, most serveradmins hate people using their server as practiceground wrecking all planes/not fixing them again. This is typical for mission called Domination, when a plane/chopper crashes, you need to repair it again. You do this by lifting it with the wreckchopper and place it on the wreck-repair pad. Always look at the text on the screen right after joining a mission as this is where most servers have their rules info to players. Remember most missions are most enjoyable to play when you cooperate with other players, instead of just being a "lone wolf". Happy playing :)

So how do I get into one of these "pilot slots"? Is it before I actually spawn?
max power 21 Posted August 20, 2012 If the particular mission has them, you should be able to choose your soldier type or role in the lobby... team leaders vs. squaddies, etc.
