I have just finished modeling the APC on the left which is the Saxon but I cannot find and information on the APC to the right of this picture, taken last night as loyalists attacked Catholic homes with blastbombs last night.

Can anyone supply me with information on this APC or even a name for it smile.gif

My understanding is that the Saxon replaced the Humber Pig in Northern Ireland.....

You sure its British army?

It looks more like a police armoured car to me.

No its not the Humber pig, a man near me bought one recently with a Saracen and now conducts tours of west belfast. I'll try to find some better pictures.

These are the police armoured cars used here.

The pictured apc is an army one used here since july 2001. Usually vehicles go through trails here for around a year before being publicy released, thats what happened to the saxon anyway.

Pensioner attacked as Belfast violence continues

June 24, 2002

(10:32) Loyalists have attacked a Catholic pensioner with a meat cleaver in North Belfast. The 65-year-old man was walking his dog along the interface at Duncairn Gardens, when two men got out of a car and slashed the man at 9.00pm last night.

The man suffered head wounds and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Elsewhere in Belfast, six people escaped injury when a blast bomb was thrown into their home, off Tates Avenue, close to the Loyalist "village" area of South Belfast. The house occupants, who include both Catholics and Protestants, said that they would now be leaving the area.

Three police officers were injured in Sectarian rioting at the flashpoint North Queen Street area of the city.

Police and British army units were called to the area after reports that a suspected pipe bomb had been thrown at Catholic homes. Police later confirmed the device was a large firework.

Up to 200 people took part in the unrest, and a number of stones and other missiles were thrown.

Heres another photo of it from the side. I cant seem to find any of good quality and if I were to take a photo as they drive on the streets my camera will be confiscated and myself lifted and questioned so I can only use photos taken by news teams on the web. The search continues.  smile.gif

That news service is interesting. I assume its national?

also interesting that you only seem to mention the protestant attacks smile.gif

but they report individual car crash fatalities (when news is slow?)

"Man dies in Mayo road accident

June 24, 2002

(10:37) A 19-year-old man has been killed in a road accident in County Mayo. He died when the car he was driving collided with a wall at Mulranny Road, in Newport, at around 10.40pm last night."

Is there more to this story ,or are they actually reporting on a man crashing his car into a wall and unfortunatly dieing?

i guess Irelands numerically a pretty small place.

As for the vehicle, i guess you wont find it detailed on any website yet. It could easily be simply a modified version of a number of the vehicles above....

you could probably already make a model from the shots you have (assuming you possess at least moderate talent)

and call it 'British APC' or something

(not ideal but for a start....)

The information I need is Name and stats such as road speed armour and the like as it is a completely new vehicle and not a modified vehicle. The modeling bit will be easy smile.gif

The news service is the RTE which is the national news service of the Irish republic which as you can tell takes its road traffic issues strictly as their road deaths are pretty high.

Yes the population of Ireland is small, the island still hasn't recovered from the potato famine in the 1840's where over 6 million either died of starvation or emigrated to the USA

I am not being biased only posting protestant attacks against catholics, it is simply that it is only loyalists, and the Ulster Deffence Association (UFF) that are instagating attacks in the North of Ireland at the moment.

The UFF/UDA are an antiagreement paramilitary organisation that reciently murdered people (including a postman) under the name of the Red Hand Defenders and that is when John Ried revocked their ceasefire status.

It is the likes of Johnny Adair and John White (UFF leaders) that are stiring up the pot to try and intimadate the republicans to break their ceasefire so that they can offically go back to their sectarian war but the bombs being thrown are a loyalist design pipe bombs and as the Ira use Coffee Jar bombs and the INLA use russian grenades (as they dont make homemade explosives) it is easy to see who is to blame despite the UFF calls that the IRA are to blame.

I think I know what is is.

I think that it is a variant of this vehicle

RG 31M 300kb

rg_32m.jpg

RG31.jpg

It is the Vickers RG 31M although 2nd photo shows the RG 32M (Airportable version)

The front cab is the same and if you were to place a new section on the back of it like the article says that you can it would be the one I am looking for.

The RG-31 is currently available as an Armoured Personnel Carrier and Utility Vehicle either for cargo or for the mounting of a variety of palletised weapons systems such as 81mm mortar, 106mm RCL and 20mm cannon. These variants are also readily adaptable to a variety of other applications including Command Vehicles, Rapid Intervention Vehicle, Urban or Rural Patrol and Explosive Ordnance Disposal.

RG-31 has a V-shaped hull of monocoque, welded all-steel construction to which a highly effective leaf spring suspension is attached. A wide rear door and eight roof hatches ensure ease of access and egress and large armoured windows afford excellent all- round vision. The externally mounted fuel tank minimises the threat of an interior fire in the event of a mine detonation.

Powered by a Mercedes-Benz turbo-charged 6 cylinder engine and an Allison automatic transmission, the RG-31 has an engine compartment that is functionally laid out with easy access to the engine and all its ancillaries, facilitating ease of service and maintenance. Effective air conditioning and an optional winterisation package reduce crew fatigue. The Armoured Personnel Carrier variant accommodates a driver and up to ten crew. The powerful engine and highly effective suspension system, coupled with all-wheel drive, give it excellent on and off-road mobility.

Although according to the rest of the world this vehicle is still a prototype and is not used yet wink.gif
