Hardware? software? whats wrong?

heres the story, im trying to run ofp on a viao laptop.  at first i had an error message that said to reinsert the cdrom.. i eventually reformated a partition to fat32 and installed the game on there.. started up fine.  now onto the major problem.

when the game starts... theres a couple blocks of funny characters at the top of the screen. also the graphics flash at the beginning copyright screen.  note, i never make it to the actuall game or menu, shortly after the program starts.. my computer reboots itself.  interesting huh..

box specs:

athlon 1.2ghz

256 sdram

30gig

ATI Rage Mobility -M1 AGP (driver 6.13.10.5779)

VIA AC'97 Audio Controller (WDM)

also i switched all drives OUT of DMA mode.

any help from anyone would be very much appritiated.. i have a LAN party next weekend.. and i would love to have this game running.
