How to install, setup and run Arma on a Dedicated server (not a home PC) (Debian)

Recommended Posts

Hallo,

so I'm trying to install ArmA2 on my Dedicated server (I have arma on steam).

So my Dedicated server is not my PC, I'm renting the server.

The problem is that i dont know do I need to buy the game on a new account and intall the Steam on the server and install arma2 on it? Or I can just upload game files on my server from my PC?

my server specs are:

OS Debian (Linux)

CPU Intel® Core™ i7-920 Quadcore incl. Hyper-Threading Technology

RAM 24 GB DDR3 RAM

Hard disks 2 x 750 GB SATA 3 Gb/s HDD (Software-RAID 1)

NIC 1 Gbit OnBoard connected at 100 Mbit

Backup Space 100 GB

Is there any manual or tutorial how to do that? Here on the forums i dont see any parts do I need to upload the whole game (just copy/paste files) to the server, and then use the install script? Do I need to buy the game again to have a Dedicated server for it?

I'm already running some other games using Wine.

So can i get any support?

Thank you!

BIS have kindly supplied us with a Linux dedi server, no point using wine.

It also include a funny file called readme.txt, wonder what that is?

Basics are:

Use your already purchased game, you don't need a new licence

Upload your Arma 2 folder to your server

Install Nix server

Edit configs

Start server

Have fun

So can i get any support?
A search for Linux server in MP section gives about twenty pages worth of hits
