Dead3yez 0 Posted June 20, 2012 It's not that great. It looks like it only works if you have a surface to push the object against.

walker 0 Posted June 21, 2012 (edited) It's not that great. It looks like it only works if you have a surface to push the object against. Hi all In reply to Dea3yez point Hmm; ocasions where humans experience objects not at rest on a surface due to gravity or acceleration: In free fall in the international space station or a space ship in orbit or other none accelerated space flight. In free fall while parachuting or in a parabolic flight free fall simulation. Floating in water Hot air or lighter than air gas envolopes floating in lower density atmosphere. There are probably a few other such anomolous situations... Generaly though everything you experience on a day to day basis is at rest on a surface due gravity a guy by the name of Newton pointed this out. Another useful feature Newton pointed out is friction, slipery surfaces might have an effect on this system, as with any other gripper, including, whoops butter fingers. Some simple improvements to the system would be: A pair of Grippers, we have two hands! The addtion of an oposable digit. The addition of nails; a thin hard plastic flat surface detail of about 1 cm square to lever up object that is too flat against the surface, to obtain purchase, as we do with our nails. Fingers or rather a tubular "digits" to provide a more complex surface manipulation function. Making the gripper part of a suite of tools. Using the gripper to manipulate other tools as human hands do, they already exampled the pen in the video. There are several other engineering solutions that could be applied to improve the grippers usefulness... In reply to mrcash2009's point below Funny & Interesting videos thread? Valid sir. zigzag 0 Posted June 21, 2012 What about something that hangs in the air, like a lamp, would that be possible to grab?
Dead3yez 0 Posted June 21, 2012 Hi allIn reply to Dea3yez point Hmm; ocasions where humans experience objects not at rest on a surface due to gravity or acceleration: ---- Not all surfaces are horizontal. :j: Place a glass on the edge of your table and push lightly against it at the side. You be the judge if there's enough friction to stop it from moving.
walker 0 Posted June 21, 2012 (edited) Hi all In reply to this point by zigzag: What about something that hangs in the air, like a lamp, would that be possible to grab? YEP! Though you usualy use either your oposable thumb if it is small enough, or more often two hands in such a situation, try doing it with one hand behind your back. In which case we are in to the same case where you apply the; two manipulator and other the simple improvements, I pointed out in the previous post, hense why I suggested them. On this point by Dead3yez Not all surfaces are horizontal. :j:Place a glass on the edge of your table and push lightly against it at the side. You be the judge if there's enough friction to stop it from moving. Yes not all surfaces are horizontal hense why I mentioned friction in the earlier post, check your Newton it is there. Never the less, a non horizontal surface, can offer resistance against which to push, in fact when you manipulate objects against such a surface you turn the direction of force you apply to account for this often 90 degrees to the surface, as often as not without you realising you are doing it. walker 0 Posted June 21, 2012 (edited) Hi all In reply to this point by Dead3yez: What about eating a cake? Crumbs! Do I have to work it all out! As I pointed out use the gripper to manipulate tools as the hand does, knife, fork and spoon. Kind Regards walker Edited June 21, 2012 by walker
