Kirowan 0 Posted June 19, 2002 I love OF, but I sure do suck at flying helicopters and planes. I know my keys aren't analog, but they seem to respond that way when I'm attempting to manuever. It's also extremely difficult for me to line up a missile run on a convoy. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I never played a chopper/plane sim before, is there something I should be aware of? Do I need to use a joystick? Also, when commanding tanks, why do they rock when you order a turn? Say I order the tank to turn left. Why does it turn left just a little bit only to shift right again when it stops turning left? Do I have to hold the key down or what to make larger turns? I know you don't have to hold the forward and reverse key down to sustain movement, but how about when turning? Thanks in advance for the pointers everybody. theavonlady 2 Posted June 19, 2002 Search The FAQ for "pilot", "fly" and "tanks".
DavieCrock 0 Posted June 19, 2002 Kirowan: I would follow the Avonlady's faq (it's a superior site for newcomers/vets). If the aircraft is not responding IMMEDIATELY, you shouldn't expect that, the game attempts to be realistic (e.g. momentum, etc). I don't use a joystick (too much trouble to drag out/put back every few minutes). Yes you have to hold the keys down for sustained turns. However, I don't use the keys for turns in tanks, most of the time, I use the mouse. Goodluck!
ralphwiggum 6 Posted June 19, 2002 vehicles in OFP are not simulation, but more arcade-ish. but you still need to practice. goto mission editor, choose an island, put yourself as apilot, driver, and start learning how to fly and etc. start learning slowly. and as a commnader, OFP tank manuevering is really painful. so for me, if i can, i drive it bymyself. somehow AI is not at taking turnleft and turn right from human commander
eyes 0 Posted June 19, 2002 yeah it's best if you can to tell the ai to be the gunner and be the driver yourself. If you get in as commander first you can then also give instructions to the gunner.
Guest Titanium Posted June 19, 2002 AIM-Harnu14 ICQ 159726824 Go ahgead and contact me. We can paly MP maps with stuff you need to learn in them. I've been giving a lot of lessons lately hope you hear from ya soon. Yes, I would use Avon's site, but if you're like me. You don't like instrutions and rather learn person to person. Well at least in my opinion.. Hope that helps
SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted June 19, 2002 Well, if your going really fast, your going to have a hard time manuevering. Also, on the planes, the rudder is messed up bad.It stops working when you reach takeoff speed.

SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted June 20, 2002 Yea, i like using my mouse and keyboard, when it comes to flying helicopters, but airplanes, i like to use my joystick, its just the rudder i hate, both keyboard, or joystick.

grayghost 0 Posted June 20, 2002 Indeed, helos are the easiest Aircraft to fly. Fixed wing are a pain and not as realistic as they could be (esp. with the view distance limitation and the lack of a targetting camera) ... also there's that problem with bad physics for bombs :/. A-10's aren't very good for strafing for example - the gun fires along the plane's axis of flight - I think it should actually fire below it a bit. In addition you should be able to slow down plenty on flaps for strafing. The A-10 is meant to do things 'low and slow' and has great acceleration for this reason. As it is now it's probably a bit underpowered, but I'm not entirely certain about that. As for control, I'd think they could turn a tigher radius *g* ... 300 meters. Anyway, my 2c.
