speedio 1 Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) Downloaded the demo today and free flight works fine. however. my X52 Pro is not detected automatically and when try to set it up in options the game crashes. The moment I press controlls in the options menu the game crashes with no error log that I can find. I have tried to open the controlls menu with my X52 unplugged also but with the same result. Video settings I can change without problems. I was really looking forward to trying this game and I was planing on buying it. But if I can't setup my flightstick I don't see the point :/ Has anyone experienced something similar or have any sugestions? [edit:] Some aditional info. Tested both the stand alone demo and the steam demo. same problem. Edited January 16, 2012 by speedio Solved the problem so changed the title.
DnA 5143 Posted January 16, 2012 I'm using the X52 as well and have not encountered such issues on the demo. Which OS are you running? Can you try re-installing the X52 drivers? Do you have any other control peripherals connected next to keyboard and mouse? TrackIR?
speedio 1 Posted January 16, 2012 I did just upgrade to the X52 so I'm sure there are some old drivers around not in use. I'm running Win 7 x64. I will try to purge my system of any old drivers and try to run the game using just the keyboard and mouse to see if it works then. If everything works I'll install the X52 drivers again and do another test. thanks for the reply. ---------- Post added at 11:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:34 AM ---------- solved it! Was searching for an error log to help solve this. I can't believe I did not think of the windows event viewer before. but when I checked it, this is what i found. I uninstalled that program and everything works like a dream ^^ nw_bob is NewView. I was going to use it to change how I pan my view in IL2 Cliffs of Dover. Never got it working correctly and promptly forgot about it. It also has an emulator that will install a "mouse flightstick" so you can setup your mouse as a fligthstick in games I guess. never looked into that. Could be good to put that application on a list somewhere for reference in case someone else has this problem. Also I appriciate the help in solving this. The fact that a developer not only reads, but actually tries to help the users makes me even more inclined to buy this game. Now it's time to do some flying and see if I'll be getting a new game next paycheck ^^ ---------- Post added at 11:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:20 AM ---------- Hmm , while flying around. Having some fun the game crashed again. Guess this is not my lucky day. I think I had been flying just a few minutes. 10 min is my guess. Was playing Free flight. At the time I was going to try my first landing and was just about to get in a hover. Event viewer error log. I'll report again when I'm done either way. ---------- Post added at 12:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:43 AM ---------- update: I've just played for 39 minutes without any problems. I have done some free flight and start up shutdown tutorial. just alt+tabed to type this before flying some more ^^
DnA 5143 Posted January 16, 2012 Try looking at the video options guide and seeing if you can get better stability that way. Especially the video memory option to default may help you.
speedio 1 Posted January 16, 2012 Thanks for the tip. I ended up setting my graphics higher though. I have played the demo for almost 2 hours now without any problems. So if the game crashes for unknown reason every 2 hours I can live with that :) I'm loving the game. The demo is really good and let's you actually experience the game properly. I felt the flight controls where a "tad" twitchy and hard to control in hover , landing and takoff situations. I have read you have a patch in the works to improve the flight system so I'm not worrid. Looks like I'll be getting this in a few weeks. Thanks for the fun so far ;)
