dysta 10 Posted December 12, 2011 I always thought the dead soldier will be covered just like most of the honorable sacrifice scene. I also dislike to see the corpse just disappears without any reason. Either just packed with corpse-bag or being burned I wouldn't care a lot. However, there's something worse to hate about. If the corpse is meant to be misery, that method is seems pretty extreme. Q_h_OBb6cOw
Darkhorse 1-6 16 Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Other than them ending up in the landfill, I don't get why it's such a big deal. Limbs/body parts that are recovered from the field and cannot be identified through DNA/other means have to go somewhere,it's not like Arlington has enough room for them to bury unidentified/"extra" remains every time they are encountered. The final location is the only thing that was wrong with the system. If it had been government owned property, say an acre of land on a military base or somewhere out of a city, they could have just built a concrete"tomb" of sorts and it would have been fine.) I'm not trying to sound insensitive, my dad almost didn't make it back from Iraq himself, and I've had friends who never did, but think about it. It wasn't entire bodies, and they cremated the remains and then burned the ashes. The process that replaced the landfill thing is to put the burned ashes in capsules (not the right word... containers, but not containers... I can't remember) and bury them at sea. It's more respectful, but it doesn't quite make sense to me. As for the incident with the arm and getting it to fit in the casket, I agree it should have been the family's decision, but things like that happen. Rigor mortis/wounds received in combat can make it pretty damn hard to fit a body in a casket, and going by the information I've heard about the arm incident (not much, but enough news articles/clips to know the basics) it wasn't something you would want the family to have to see, so they dealt with it. As bad as that might be, it's not as disrespectful as it's been painted, depending on the circumstances. Edited December 12, 2011 by Darkhorse 1-
MF_Washburn 1 Posted December 12, 2011 Doesn't seem like the ones for whom these soldiers fought and died for are very grateful.
