Cant get AI scripts to work....

Hi there,

I've downloaded just a couple for now...the most simple maybe being the Copy My Stance one.

I've created an @folder and inside that an addons folder. I've placed the pbo in the addons folder and downloaded CBA as required.

Inside the launcher I've set it so that CBA loads before the AI addon.

But in game just nothing happens. I don't think its an issue with the mod but with my stupid arse generally more than likely...

Oh I should say I'm resuming in the middle of a saved campaign.

UPDATE : I've gotten the Heal script to work..I copied the files as before but named the parent folder the same name as the actual pbo but adding the "@" as well - now it works. However I added the AI First Aid Support (darpa), went into the campaign and shot one of my men but no one healed him so I'm not sure if I'm still doing something wrong.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Copy My Stance, you need AI under your command to see it work, as that is what the AI does "Copy My Stance " "your" stance".

i think what you should do is test the stuff in the editor before you test in the campaign. Just go to sp, then editor, pick an island, and then you should be on.

fastest island that loads and is good for testing is desert.

double click on the island and then hit enter, and it will a dd a unit (player character ie.,. solider.

for a squad press F2, and put a squad down, and then make yourself the leader, and watch what the AI does.

Another way to check to see if your mods are launching is to look at the top right of the menu under the logo

and see the title of your mod there, if its not there then you may have it setup wrong, or the launcher is not loading it correctly.

Thanks Gunter! I've gotten the heal script working and also the stance script...in the editor. I wonder if it doesn't activate in a saved campaign.

Do you know if there's a compilation of all the best AI scripts for easy install?

Easy install?

Most scripts are the same in general, basically put them in your mission folder, and add to the init line,

it varies from script to script as or call ingame somehow. For Ai scripts refer to my sig the link that says:

AI Compilation List

and then go down to scripts, some may have been released that i dont know of so if you find any

let me know on the thread so i can update the list.

I don’t really use respawn that much, I feel it takes away the realistic feel to a mission, sometimes however its required if you have huge amounts of ai and you want to keep fps up a little. GL4, ASR_ai & SLX (COSLX) cover virtually all the script type things for your ai units, for example the ai will do all of the following and much more;

talk to each other, do exercises, sit, random patrol, heal, house search, seek & search specific buildings (on eye contact), drag wounded out of line of fire, garrison, request reinforcements, artillery request, air attack request, take cover commands, in-combat evasive manoeuvres, seek & investigate on hearing gunshots, will man empty available heavy weapons/vehicles, drop empty weapons, scavenge for ammo & or weapons, flanking manoeuvres, drawn out fire-fights, unarm enemy after wounded, recruit, take captive, watch-over, use rooftops (snipers in particular), use smoke grenades, use night flares, search, do specific patrols, wounding effects (heavier calibre the weapon worse the wound, inc eye out, part head blown off through to dismemberment), body burning (running from burning vehicles/aircraft etc), use house window positions, retreat/run away/surrender, sync groups to each other to keep in-touch with one another (call for specific, not random, reinforcements/help),…

etc, etc, etc.

These are just a few of the things ai will do when using ai mods with virtually no scripting required, its all done for you by the mod (just the odd one line in the init field), I am really ai nuts, as they are the thing that make the whole SP game realistic (I don’t play MP), so I have tested a lot and have seen all the above things happen frequently and often plus much more, they can do really extraordinary things on their own. GL4 has a large re-spawn facility available (units & groups), this also includes the re-spawned units/groups using empty vehicles as transport to the combat zone if they are far away, rather than walk. All this is available via the mods mentioned, mainly GL4 & SLX (COSLX). ASR_ai adds to the ai scavenge, manoeuvres & accuracy mode of the ai, it does a lot more than that but its more subtle, each mod is ultra configurable within the config files. Some of the tasks above require triggers, obviously..

So if your into ai use the mod’s mentioned and you should not have to script too much, test to see, its great fun..

Must say I haven’t done the campaign on any of the Arma series, far too busy in the editor…

Night-time spec op missions, heli in or boat up river to extract or target bad guy etc, are electric. If you plan the mission right and add a little randomness to keep you on your toes, it doesn’t get much better than that ;), plays differently every time..
