XFSBrett 10 Posted July 20, 2011 I run one of the larger Game Server Provider companies, and over the past few months, we have had numerous requests to add the ARMA/ARMAII series to our list of available rentals. I had stayed away from this game since all the information I read regarding it was that the server consumed an entire CPU core just to run, and just sounded like an utter nightmare. Not to mention the game had to be purchased to access the server files, so this killed it. After reading the Wiki, I found that the new Free version supports both Free and ARMA2 players on the servers. As this is the case, I am currently setting up ARMA2 Free as an available product, and will also be advertising a bit to get some interest going with our customers. My question though is, I see it says that addons/mods are restricted. I am assuming this just means for the Client version correct? Are the server files unrestricted, or do they suffer from the same limitations as the client?
gossamersolid 155 Posted July 20, 2011 From what I've heard is that ArmA 2 Free servers are limited to no mods on the server side as well. Now somebody from BIS will have to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure that is unfortunately the case. I'm not sure if they are working on a fix for it or not. XFSBrett 10 Posted July 20, 2011 Alright, well thank you for getting back to me on that so quickly. I was going to use these files listed as "ARMA2" but I guess for the time being we will only be offering "ARMA2 Free" servers. I am still rather shocked that they have released so many different expansions and what not, and still have not managed to get standalone dedicated server files for these games. .kju 3244 Posted July 20, 2011 Best to contact Dwarden via PM. That said from what I can tell A2F contains the normal A2 (full) server exe. So technically you should be able to host servers just fine with it. Only the client exe has restrictions. In terms of the license details - no idea.

gossamersolid 155 Posted July 20, 2011 if u run a Server with Mods, Free clients cant see the Server! That's still a problem, I don't see why I can't use server side mods on an ArmA 2 server that allows ArmA 2 Free players in...
Hud Dorph 22 Posted July 23, 2011 (edited) If you run one of the "Larger Game Server Provider companies" surly you can afford to buy 1copy of the full game, as this allowes you to run as many servers/installs u like, provided that its only the server you are going to run.
