Catalyst 11.5 6850 Crossfire Crash

Recommended Posts

With the new catalyst 11.5 update I now crash at a random point into a given play through. This only happens when in crossfire with 2 sapphire 6850s. If I turn off crossfire mode the problem goes away.

The crash usually happens when things start heating up. Several times it has been right as a firefight has started.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. The driver update was only released a little while ago so I am not surprised that I haven't been able to find other cases of this yet.

same on 5850 in both 11.5 and 11.5[both RC1 and RC3].

their raise both frame-rate and CPU saturation[more mt-ready-redering back-end? like Nv], but at cost of insanely huge LoD compression and IQ sacrifice.

or in short, 11.5's provide more Direct3D frame-rate, but less consistent than 11.4[for example]and with IQ penalty too.

good thing - OpenGl considerably improved: now you get working Photoshop OpenGL acceleration[pretty fast even on 1Gb cards with 2-5Gb images], working WebGL acceleration in all major browsers[except IE. but not for long, IMO :P]and more strict OpenCL HW acceleration[less OpenCL code working over CPU, more over GPU]and etc and etc.

There's an 11.5a hotfix available over here that you could try, but there's no mention of this problem.

The general idea with drivers, is that newer does not always mean more stable. Testing for every possible hardware combination on every existing game is impossible. The best you can do if it continues is a complete uninstall and reinstall of the drivers. Failing that, rolling back to a version which worked properly for you, then reporting the problem to both AMD and BIS.

is it a game crash, a bsod or does your comp turn off instantly?

The game halts for a second, then bsod. I did a clean install with the 11.5a hotfix and the problem appears to be delayed, but still occurs.

This is too bad because when the game is running it is much smoother with 10+ higher frame rates using 11.5 over the old drivers.
