For OFP, you have all those people just jumping on the chopper for a quick lift and magicaly they find an infinite supply of chutes (Ok, I know ammo crates also have infinite ammo) Â and are all trained and skill to jump off with chutes no matter their class and how much amunition they carry, can drop from 60m, going at 250km/h without a scratch? Please, this is ridiculous, the way u guys talk about people chuting off choppers are planned operations with a few selected soldiers.. OFP is everyone. USSoldier, my use of BHD was just an example, i know the movie is somewhat fictif even if "Based" on a true story, but the tactics were realistic and if everyone in the choppers had chutes all the time in every mission, then the movie wouldnt have been the same now would it? Â Heck, when a chopper's engine is bust in the air, they usualy try to use the rotor's current spin to do a control crash, not eject, and I know that from those documentaries u see on History channel <span id='postcolor'> Well, guess what. In OFP, everyone can do everything. Thats one of the things I like about the game. Anyone can use a parachute.... yeah, well anyone can fly an A10 or SU25. Anyone can hop in a tank and fire its weapons. This is the flexibility of OFP showing. And besides, what the hells wrong with the idea that everyone can use parachutes? I mean, if if I was in a plane that was going down, I would learn how to use a parachute pretty damn quick
Insthink 0 Posted May 17, 2002 As stated in my first post, here is what I dont like about being able to chute "Air vehicle kills are nearly impossible for ground troops as the choppers can just quickly pass high above ur head, they never land, try to shoot a chopper flying 100m above ground, going at 250km/h with a AA!!! Force them to land like they do in every real wars. (Where they can get shot, makes it even more dangerous and thrilling)" I guess I should rewrite the "every real wars" by "most of the time"
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted May 17, 2002 why force them to land? As a helo specialist in USMC-Warriors, I have recognized that there are disadvantages and advantages with both the parachute technique and actually landing (or some facsimile thereof). You can place grunts more safely with parachutes, but you sacrifice accuracy as to where the grunts actually land. This can compromise the mission, and/or expose the grunts to unnecessary enemy fire. On the other hand, landing/hovering is more dangerous, but is more accurate in the placement of troops, and is also the only way to extract grunts from a hot situation. As for the difficulty of shooting down a moving aircraft; ask anyone who is given training in anti air and they will tell you that it aint easy to shoot down an aircraft of any kind, especially when the pilot likes having his craft in one piece. And as for it being unfair, I say: yeah, and? Because in many missions helos are a finite resource, one wants to preserve them, as they give you a quick strike capability that is to be treasured in OFP. And when was war supposed to be fair? You are supposed to balance your survival with completing your assigned task. Why should pilots be forced to unnecessarily risk their birds, just because some piss-ant grunt cant point his Strela in the right direction? Especially when there is a real world precedent to support helo para-drops?

Storm_Chaser 0 Posted May 17, 2002 Actually, it's quite possible, and plausible to jump from a helichopter. I had the honor of watching the Golden Knights at the 2001 National Boy Scout Jamboree do it. Very cool to watch (Tho, the chopper seemed to orbit forever). SKULLS_Viper 0 Posted May 17, 2002 I like doing missions online, where you board a helicopter and then jump out.All though it always seems that, cause the pilot bails out before you can, so you have no choice, but to bail lol. I wish they would land the helis some time, and then you come jumping out of the heli and shoot like mad, like in vietnam, where you see the hueys land then the guys hold onto there helmets and come running out.I just like any mission with troop transport helis.
