Some questions ...about multiplayer/gameplay

Hi there,

Reveal Target

I have problems sometimes with targeting visible enemies. Yesterday i was driving the awesome HMMV with thermal view and grenade launcher. Before I was suprised how well they detect enemy infantry.

Anyway, was approaching one village and saw an enemy vehicle ahead. Used target reveal on him and nothing did happen. Turned right and suddenly i had another vehicle at front of me, this time maybe 50m only away. Was a visible target: My AI gunner aswell the assistant driver didnt call out anything, I quick pressed the reveal target button and got no reaction with. After that i pressed 2, to see if the target exist...wasnt available aswell. The next second this vehicle did slowly kill me with his MG fire and I could do nothing.

As a driver I dont have any aim cross, so is the target reveal function centered on the middle of the screen ?

I had such problems with Arma 2 aswell in multiplayer.

Mines

I guess that mines from the own faction dont hurt any other unit or players except the enemy, right ?

Whats the maximum of mine fields and is one mine field like one unit slot in the bar ?

Warfare

I did play on a warfare server, which had two types of Shilkas. One type did cost around 3000 and the other type 35.000. Why is there such a high price difference ?

ACE addon - Server

Almost a year ago, ACE was played quiete a lot on many servers. Seems like it isnt that popular anymore or did I miss servers when I just use the ingame browser. Maybe some of you can recommand a good populated ACE server, would be nice. I remember that people did use third party game browser, not sure if this is still popular. The populated (20-30 player average) server I find in the list dont use any client mods so far.

If you start a new thread, please make sure your thread title explains what you want without forcing people to read through your post first. Thread titles such as "How in the world do I...", "Need help!" or "Will we ever see..." are anything but descriptive. We do not allow these kind of titles and threads with such titles are subject to be closed.

I hope the additional hint that I talk about multiplayer and gameplay is enough descriptive. I will add more questions in this thread in the next days.

HINT AI has no eyes ;) It is a simulated soldier in a computer simulation no visual process is involved.

The AI has a simulation of sight that includes statistical modifiers for:

Time of day.

Direction of light source (statistically simulates the effects on visual acuity a human would experience staring into the sun)

Occluding objects, camoflage uniform values, inherent skill and capability of the unit type, terrain background etc.

And most importantly for your question value modifiers for equipment eg, weapon sights, varying per sight; night vision including variations for the night vision type.

I think you need to set the AI to engage at will. And set them to aware/combat.

No Mines in ArmA are like mines in reality that is to say they are equal opportunity killers, an undiscriminating weapon other than people and wheeled vehicles are treated different from tracked vehicles.

ACE is played with by many servers, in particular on the larger community servers, consider several of these larger community servers do not show up in the browser as they are private and usually passworded.

May I instead suggest you entitle threads with each question keeping them separate. That way you are contributing to the community so that others can search for the same question and it saves the same question being answered many times.

Walker, thank you a lot for your answers to my questions.

The settings for the AI I use are always (danger, engage at will, sometimes part of the crew also scan horizont). I will try the aware mode the next time. But honestly, I rather think the AI detection is still poor in certain situations. The enemy vehicle was in front of my car and AI, they should not miss it at all. The strange thing is that I could clear almost a whole town with the MMMV 19, hitting EI which I could not see myself...better I will test this with the editor aswell.

About mines: I did use on a warfare server (Gossamers Warfare) the support truck for minefields and the questions did arise since I could drive over my own mines without any harm or explosion. Maybe the settings are different here.

The optional Shilkas were also on one of the Gossamers Warfare servers, I didnt know the type of Warfare version before and will ask in their own thread about that.

Bad, that the current populated public servers dont offer any gameplay with client mods. Good that hidden servers are active aswell.

The standard mines in vanila ArmA are anti tank mines.

There are several public servers that run the ACE mod and several communities that run a private community server also run a public recruiting server.

Try filtering on ACE ;)

About the question of the two shilkas. I have labelled the shilka (depending on the team you are on) a different vehicle.

The opfor has a normal shilka for around $2000 (I think) and they also have the Tor-M1 AA System which uses the Shilka classname for usage (I couldn't find a more suitable extra vehicle).

To use the Tor-M1, you hop in either the gunner or commander seat (forget which one it is), then click Tor-M1 console in your action menu.
