AI Cannot target non-enemies

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just purchased ARMAII and OA a few days ago. I am having trouble getting used to the AI commands. I have searched for some tutorials and I am currently looking at these videos: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12120. The second video on that page deals with targeting objects that are not enemies. I follow the instructions on that video but it does not seem to work for me.

For example, I have a squad of men under my command, I placed a few locals in the area in view, a few cows and a unmanned truck. I select my squad with the space bar, and I go to target, more targets and I select a cow. I then reselect my squad and tell them to "Fire" in the engage menu. They just ignore my orders. I tried the same with the truck and the locals and myself as a target. What seems to be the issue?

Yes I think this is a nasty bug in 1.56 and 1.57(not sure about 1.55).Basically you can't target any non enemies.

For example if you want a soldier in your squad to target and open fire on that specific npc or car etc which isn't an enemy you can't anymore. In the past versions you could do this.

It's a good fix, if you are shooting something that isn't enemy then why are you shooting it? There aren't that many times when you have to shoot a non-enemy in the entire game and none of them have required me to us my squad and generally require far too much finesse for the AI to do properly since they require you to blow out a cars tire or shoot someone in the leg.

The reason it's good is because it stops those times when you would hold right click to zoom in on a nearby friend only to have your gunner decide that you actually want to blow him away and open fire on them.

What if I want to suppress a building? For example, I am approaching a village and I want to assign a soldier to suppress buildings regardless if they are occupied?

Maybe I want them to shoot a pimp which isn't hostile or maybe I want my AI tank to destroy an T90 that it disabled it preventing another player to repair over and over again the damn tank.

It doesn't matter in the past it was an option and now it isn't.This is the thing that bothers me.

Btw,I'm not talking about that situation where you pointed your cursor at a building, someone or vehicles and AI was engaging it automatically, yes that pissed me of many times.I'm talking about giving specific commands in this case 2-0-choose target-3 which doesn't work anymore.

You have to tell them to Fire 3-3 after targeting. They will even kill you, their leader.

Yes, you can do that with small-arms in other wargames but not in the AA series.

However you CAN assign mortars to drop shells on any building..:)

Exactly the 3-3 option doesn't work anymore.

all empty etc is side civilian, how about setting object to sideEnemy when you need surpressing fire or fire on object?

It's just a general gameplay bug. You used to be able to target friendlies or buildings to use with the suppress (I think?) or fire commands.

Kyrcek already made a ticket on the CIT.
