Essential Tweaks & Mods?

Recommended Posts

Whoever told me to install ACE? The first post of the thread, lol. Then the couple posts after it told me to also.

Nobody told you to install ACE, you asked about it.

Now that'd have to kick this game in the ass, sadly none of the benchmark sites use ArmA2

Theres two missions in SP scenerios that will benchmark your game, they are at the bottem of the list,

it plays out like a short movie and at the end it gives you as number of the fps that it got.

Benchmarks mean nothing in this game. The game is not just the graphics You see on the screen. I could get 60fps in a benchmark and still struggle to run some ai intensive missions. Ai is all calculated on a single core, even on a dedicated server hosting a multiplayer game.

Ok, you clearly aren't getting what I was posting, that wasn't the point at all, lol. I was just saying no sights Benchmark the game because of how unstable it is.

And yes, I'm Irish, but born & raised in America. McBride clan.

Benchmarks are mostly made to sell graphics cards and hardware. Ati and Nvidia finance games in return for input on these benchmarks. In the Crysis benchmarks Nvidia always came out on top, In the Stalker benchmark Ati always comes out better. Sites don't benchmark Arma as unlike other games its cpu and hard drive intensive and doesn't generate graphics card sales. Its one of the few games that really benefits from a quadcore and an ssd, with consoles holding pc gaming back its the only game I actually needed to upgrade for, but not my gpu. My young fella plays Arrowhead at 1680x1050 on a quad with an old 8800gt.

Ya know, I've run into my share of bugs in the game, but I would never call it unstable. And I've also seen some sites that DO use ArmA for benchmarking performance.

Anyhow, it sounds like your expectations haven't been met. Fair enough, but I have to say that anyone that gives up on ArmA2 after just a couple of days isn't really giving it a chance. It took me weeks to appreciate everything it has to offer.

I will warn you ahead of time though, don't go and buy OA thinking it will adress your gripes. It won't.

Ok, I guess I'm going to have to stop posting, because no one here seems to be understanding what I believe to be very clear. Thanks for all your help, but it seems -you- all have preconceived notions and won't listen to a new user. I don't even know how this debate of benchmarks just randomly started cause I mentioned them, and few games to benefit from quad cores...lol. Ah, oh well.

And where did I ever say I was giving up on it? You're all doing a whole lot of talkin', but not alot of listening.

If you won't settle for anything less than 45fps then ARMA is probably not the game for you. Not that the engine couldn't be more optimized than it is, far from that, but having the sheer size of the game in mind you can't really expect consistently high frame rate. Considering the slow pace of the game, it is not really needed IMO.

Either way, just don't force yourself to like it. I am a die hard OFP fan and while I immensely respect ARMA 2 for what it is, I can't say I love it. My advice would be to start without any big mods, play around in the editor and get to know the game and what it is and what it can do. If the whole concept of huge maps with so much freedom and possibilities isn't really your thing or is ruined by performance issues, AI behaviour or whatever then like I said, it just might not be the game for you :)

Eh, I don't think I'll be playing to much of it really. A friend gifted it to me, so I felt I had to at LEAST play it for awhile, but alas, it's just not my style...

Sounds like you're giving up on it. If I misinterpreted that then please forgive me.

OK, Name 3 other games that need a quadcore for best performance? Up until last year everyone said a higher clocked dualcore was better than a quad. What games have suddenly changed this?
