In a game I picked up a Mortar (Podnos)

I was able to pack it up in a bag and carry it around.

How to unpack it and use it?

You need a tripod for it, get someone else to carry it for you, then you should get the option to assemble mortar.

You need to drop the tripod on the ground. Then, with the mortar in your inventory, if you stare at the tripod sack, you should get the option to assemble it.
