ALDEGA 0 Posted May 8, 2002 1. The troubleshooting forum is from problems, bugs concerning OF. This is to be classified as "how do I use windows, beginners tips" Anyway, did you rename it by saving it as "aa.p3d"? If so ".txt" will automaticly be added. You just have to rename in windows. Make sure you have "hide file extensions" off (windows explorer/tools/folder options), else you will not be able to change the file extension.

ALDEGA 0 Posted May 9, 2002 I really don't understand why MS have "hide file extension off" by default. This is one of the ways viruses can hide themselves. eg. You get an email with an attachment...The name of the attachment says "freexxx.jpg", but its actual name may be "freexxx.jpg.com", "freexxx.jpg.exe", "freexxx.jpg.pif", "freexxx.jpg.bat"...All of which can be, and most likely are viruses. So turn off "hide file extensions" and don't open attachments with those extensions. Better yet, don't open attachments, if you don't know the sender. If you do know the sender, still be vigilant. Some viruses automaticly send copies of themselves to all email address from the email address list (eg in Outlook). Thus you may receive a virus from a friend who didn't send it himself, and is probably unaware of having a virus. another example: freemoney.com (some people think the .com means it's a URL, but it's not, it's a program, with malicious intent).
