Missile Targeting with Joysticks?

I have a question about targeting vehicles with a joystick - I'm the pilot in an Apache and I can't seem to find or show any targets on the map. I've mapped my joystick button #2 to next target and button #3 to lock & zoom. However, as I mash these buttons, nothing comes up. The interesting part is that it works with the default tab key. Can anyone help?

dunno, i think i used to be able to lock but i lost my joystick so i can't remember (soz)
