Shader Model Error

Hey All,

I just bought the PC Game, ARMA II and ran the installation completely and successfully. As I click on the icon to launch the game, I get an error message that states: "Error: Shared Model 2 not supported anymore." This causes me not to play the game.

After reading some forums, I determined that my video card is not compatible with what's required to play the game as this is a popular issue for people who have outdated video cards. Therefore, I am considering buying one to do this effectively. I was wondering if you know what video cards would be compatible with my laptop that allows me to play the game? Could I just buy the video card and install it so it can work, or will I need a brand new laptop? Here is my computer information:

Dell Inspiron-1721 (brand new when purchased Summer '07)

Windows Vista Home Premium 6.0; Service Pack 2

Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 1.80 GHz

RAM: 2.00 GB

System type: 32-bit Operating System

Video Card: ATI Radeon X1270

Direct X 11 version

Your graphics card only supports shader model 2.0 while the game needs 3.0

So based on these specs that I had given you, do I just need to get the new card or do I need a new laptop?

Well assuming that u can't replace the card in the laptop, then the latter. But even if you do buy a new laptop let me warn you that these kind of games are really not laptop friendly.

Unless you have a monster laptop, like the BIS developers, you won't play this game on a laptop. And no matter what graphics card you'd ever be able to throw into your current system, the rest of your laptop is still way too weak.

Yeah Those MONSTER Laptops as in Alienware M-17 or ASUS Republic of Gamers Series with i7 and HD5870 Mobility

It would be great if it was possible to choose shader model 2 or lower

It would be great if people checked the required specs of games before trying to run them, would be even greater if people didn't bump old threads for no constructive reason.
