NightHAWK2 0 Posted December 31, 2001 One thing this game needs is close combat equipment. Sharpened field shovels, axes, bayonets, garrottes and knifes for spec ops would make difference. (All recommended by Finnish army) In the middle of the night sneaking behind an enemy would be thrilling being able to waste an enemy without causing noise. Also would give you a chance if you're out of ammo. Shovels could also be used for digging in which is also an important missing feature.
Charlie_McSheenie 1 Posted December 31, 2001 i personally (please don't flame me) think any close combat equipment except for pistols would be useless. mainly because its incredibly hard to sneak right up in close range to the enemy, and even then they'll just turn around and shoot you. thats my experiance anyway, normally i ger detected as soon as i'm within 10 feet of them or something. point being people like me (rambo type not sneaky type) probably won't be able to skillfully sneak up to swinging range on an enemy (i don't know if that's impossible, i'm sure if you get too close they'll automatically detect you). i probably wouldn't use them anyway, but i never use the close combat equipment on any game (unless is hand to hand fighting). I think pistols would be a wicked idea, but knifes and shovels wouldn't for those reasons. plus i don't think the opf engine supports digging (proper digging as in a big hole appears that you can hide in)
NightHAWK2 0 Posted December 31, 2001 You're right - it's hard, but not impossible. The reason adding them is just that they're part of standard G.I. weaponry, no matter how seldom you used them. Pistols only come with squad leader & officers ranks. (Unless you get one from a dead enemy). What extra does a pistol provide you vs. an assault rifle? Revolvers and pistols belong to wild west rather than modern combat ground.
Damage Inc 0 Posted December 31, 2001 Well why add close combat weaponry if they're practically useless? No matter how standard they are.

PV 0 Posted December 31, 2001 The army issue E-tool could do a real job on someone in close combat!

Revolvers and pistols belong to wild west rather than modern combat ground... <span id='postcolor'> Yeah, so are spare socks, a ration pack and a sleeping bag... I don't see the need for close quarters combat weapons such as knives in the world of Operation Flashpoint. It is a long range game, you rarely run out of ammo if you play properly and if you need to make a silent kill then chances are you are a black op or something and have a silenced weapon anyway. Knives are standard issue to a soldiers kit more for hunting and tool purposes than killing the enemy...his rifle is for that. I would like to see pistols in the game though...if only to replace the pilots SMG and a silenced side arm for snipers.
Denwad 0 Posted January 1, 2002 Just put the following commands in your ini field this addmagazine "strokegun";this addweapon "strokegun" If ya run out of ammo, whammo, your a marine! Swing that rifle 'til it meets the enemys skull!
Phisher 1 Posted January 1, 2002 I thought BIS said something like they wont put pistols in because it would be too hard to do or something...It was awhile back on the forums.
